They are very impressive people, with their very generous donations and concern for the people of the world. TV evangelists who live high on the hog would do well to learn from them!

You don't have to be Christian to be good. Nor do you have to be good to be a Christian (according to the belief you can't be good enough to be a perfect God-follower since we all have sin and our good cannot outweigh our sin, it is too big), but you do have to try to be good.

More is a matter of how much they have. Christians altogether do at least as much or maybe more than Bill and Melinda Gates. But they have more money than any one Christian (or anyone for that matter) and so they are shown more often and in a per person situation they do more, but only because they have more. And sometimes you are right, there are "Christians" out there who call themselves Christians but are selfish and choose not to help anyone else even when they are able to do so.

While monetary gifts should not be your only gage I think you might be wrong on this one. UMCOR which is the United Methodist Committee on Relief. The organization which in most cases if the first on the ground in any disaster(before the Red Cross, and any international or federal Gov.) Spent over 44 million adding people in need in 2005. And that is only one program from one denomination.

While you certainty don't have to be Christian to do good works. Christians are called to do such and many respond above a beyond the call.

Right on. Nowadays if us non-believers do something good it is always because of ulterior motives. They only want to talk about how if he truly is good then he is secretly not an atheist. Or if he is an atheist he's doing it for a hidden reason because he is really evil and will burn in hell with the rest of us evil non-believering scum when we die. I do appreciate the believers who don't buy into this crap. Oh yes, and let us not forget Warren Buffet. Did he give all his money away for a tax write off too?

So you only can be a good person if you belive in god?
Everyone else is evil. I think you better get a clue as to what an athiest really is. Some of the god-lovers are pretty scarey people. They don't have to be good to impress anyone at church. They can just be good for goodness sake! Or evil it's their choice.

God loves Bill & Melinda Gates even if they don't acknowledge His existence. Bill have many good breaks in his business & found a good bunch working with him to come this far. we might say its luck. but God could have blessed him so he in turn can be a blessing to others.

in order to be a good person and do good for the world you dont have to believe in everything that everyone does. If that was the case then there would only be one kind of religion that was considered to have people who do good things for the worlds suffering. They do not have to believe in a god in order to feel the compassion for people who are starved, or uneducated and living in the spoils of poverty

I'm not sure you can say that they do more than all god-lovers. (I mean, what is your source for that statement?) But let's assume it is true:

You don't need religion to make you a good person. In fact religion could make some people 'bad' and people 'do bad things' in the name of religion. Secular humanists are some of the finest people I know. I think the healthy person is one who understands religion but lives life with a charitable heart and a kind spirit.

Good question!

First of all, how do you know they are both atheist?

You don't have to believe in God to do good deeds. To love God there is more than doing good deeds.

How do you know the Gates' motivation for doing these good deeds?

They're atheists? How do you know that? I've never heard 'ol Bill ever talk about religion. That's just not like him.

Anyways, it's easy to throw a couple million here, a couple million there, another 20million - oh I dunno - whereever!

I have 50 billion dollars!! And next year I'll have MORE!

Shoot, if I had that much money I would do the same. People would REALLY hate me if I kept all that money to myself. They already hate Microsoft!
