For all of you out there who thinks you are such smart asses (GitEmGang this means you), I did do my research and a number of resources stated that the schnauzer has little to no effect on a person who is allergic to dogs. Secondly, I had a full allergy exam about 3 years ago, and did not test positive for an allergy to dogs, so apparently it was recently aquired. And I am not ashamed that I bought my dog from a pet store. I adopted a dog before from a humane society and he turned out great, but had a plethera of health problems and a background that i knew nothing about. I have 2 smaller children now and need to think about them, that is why I got my dog from a petstore, because he is a puppy and I know that he hasn't been abused and isn't going to snap at my kids. And if people don't get dogs from the pet store than what happens to them, the same thing that would happen at a shelter. So give me a freakin' break, and STOP acting all holier than GOD! I will not return my dog!

See..another dog that was sold under false pretenses and now will probably end up being returned.

No dog is hypo allergenic. There are some breeds that are considered low dander...Schnauzers being one of them. But nothing is guaranteed 100% Especially puppies that come from puppymills (they sell to pet shops)

My only suggestion to you, is get some meds from your Dr so you are able to keep the poor little pup. Or, return it and do some research. Find a reputable breeder and spend some time with their dogs...adults too, to see if you have a reaction.

I am a veterinary student and in my experience, I have never heard of a schnauzer being hypo-allergenic. I do know from first hand experience that Bichon Frise, Maltese, and Poodles are quite hypo-allergenic, however, there really is no truly hypo-allergenic dog. They just shed less, and the hair and dander is what most people are allergic to. Sorry if this isn't any help, but I've never heard of anyone saying that a Schnauzer is hypo-allergenic.

I know everyone has already said this but.............. Pet store support Puppy mills and you know nothing about the dog that you bought, you don't know it's parents, health or genetic history and more likely than not you are going to end up with health problems with this dog too, thanks to crappy breeding practices of people who know nothing about breeding dogs other than there are uneducated people out there who will pay ridiculous amounts of money for something they know nothing about. This is evident by the fact that you believed you bought a HYPO ALLERGENIC DOG. You are kidding with this whole question right........ You believed that a DOG with HAIR, SKIN, DANDER, could and would be Hypo allergenic? I don't feel sorry for your sneezing and wheezing sorry, I do feel sorry for you in that you didn't do your homework BEFORE you bought a dog That's unfortunate!

No dog is 100% hypo. although some come pretty close. Take the dog back and maybe get something like a poodle. Although I did have a DR. tell me once that if you live with a dog for 6 weeks or more you body adjust and you don't have as bad of a reaction to them. My boyfriend is allergic to cats, but after hanging around mine for a month or so he is fine with my cat. Other cats still bother him though. Good Luck.

Well check it out... It's true that no dog is hypo-allergenic... but there are dogs that shed alot less hair than others... the hair is what most people (not all) are alergic to. I have a Miniature Pinscher in my apartment and my wife is sorta alergic to dogs but has no bad reactions to this one... Nothing special about the dog except it doesn't sleep with us and the little hairs it sheds won't bother her. That said, try to choose a small dog with short hair and you might be just fine...

Some people react to all dogs and some to more staright haired breeds and not to the curly coated breeds.
But in all honesty NO dog is hypo allergenic.

at the shop? I assume a pet store. They will say anything to get you to buy. THere are many many was to claim a dog is anti allergies but it is different parts of the dog that people have an allergy to most have it to the pet dander. Like humans dogs skin sheds off dead cells. Others claim its the hair and from the shedding. Even the doodle mixes in the designer breeds claim to be anti allergy but it isn't until 5-6 generations of breeding only doodles together that gets the anti allergy coat.

You could start taking allergy meds or even go to your dr and get an injection to help prevent the allergies from the dog.

I have no idea why people fall for this. There is no dog that will be hypoallergenic for everyone!!!!!!!!!!
RETURN THE DOG and get a fish. They really are hypoallergenic!!!!

And if you bought it from a pet shop...you deserved to be scammed!!! The people there know jack-sh*t about breeds. They just want to sell you a puppy mill puppy!!

SHAME ON YOU IF YOU BOUGHT FROM A PET STORE!!!

How could I be so stupid!!!!! OF COURSE pet store puppies have no health problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Face it...you got sucked into the idiots-speak from the pet store!!!! Too bad. Most people have figured it out by now. Bet you paid WAY more than a pet puppy from a good breeder would have cost!!!!!!!!

She lied. First of all, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. There are dogs, like poodles, that don't produce as much dander and therefore don't cause as severe of allergies. I have NEVER heard that a miniature schnauzer is hypoallergenic. Take her back, or get used to allergy meds.
