Old Sid, pub regular, sitting in his favourite chair sometimes suddenly comes out with "And that's not my thermometer" and laughs, so we suspect it's a joke. Anyone know it?

At her annual checkup, the attractive young woman is told by the doctor that it's necessary to take her temperature rectally. She agrees, but a few minutes later says indignantly, "Doctor, that's not my rectum!"

"Madam," says the doctor, "That's not my thermometer."

Just then the woman's husband, who's come to pick her up, comes into the room. "Just what the hell is going on here!?" he demands.

"I'm taking your wife's temperature," the doctor coolly explains.

"Okay, doctor," says the husband, "But that thing better have numbers on it."

Old fool or not, I'll bet there is an interesting story to be told. Maybe you can catch him on a good day when his memory might be doing him well, and tell him you've heard him make that comment so many times, but it sounds like an unfinished story and if he would enlighten you and tell you what he meant. I doubt he would be offended by your asking. If you find out come back and let us know before/when you chose your best answer. Old people have some of the best stories when they are given the opportunity to reminise their youth.

An old neighbour of mine had a problem with farting - he would be in fall flow of a conversation and just let rip! then turn round and say "ohh its getting windy" - maybe this pub regular is blowing wind too. If u get close to him next time see if u can hear or smell anything!
