The stereo might say cd/cassette but it's just because when you purchase the car from the dealer you have the option to get either a cd player or a cassette player, they only make one frame and whether you get a cd player or a cassette deck its still gonna say cd/cassette. It looks like you don't have a cd player. The only reason the cd player would be in the trunk is if it is a multi-disk cd player. If you were to have a cd player you would be able to tell right on the face of the audio equiptment. I don't think you have a cd player. Sorry

I also have a Taurus. If you have the digital dash you won't be able to install a head unit, you would need a cd changer. If you're sure there's not one installed in the car you will need to buy a disc changer and a wiring harness for a 99 Taurus. Mine's a wagon so it's a little different. But one way to check if you have one or not is to find the internal antenna (probably somewhere in your trunk) and follow that line. If you do have one it would be connected to that somewhere, along with the wiring harness. Even if there isn't a cd player installed yet, you may already have the wiring harness so I would check. I got a 6 disc changer on Ebay for under $20. I had to buy the wiring harness separately though, and they can be expensive. Good luck!

The stereo is universal which is why it lists all possible media but the CD player is an option. That makes it a bit misleading if you aren't the original purchaser of the vehicle, since they would have known that the cd changer wasn't ordered. On the plus side, if you find a cd changer (say at a wrecking yard or perhaps a removed unit at a stereo company), you can simply plug it into the wiring harness in thetrunk and bolt it into place and you are ready to rock out to your favourite cd's.

The radio came with CD controls so a changer can be easily added latter, The Cd changer is either in the trunk or in my case I had a 01 Taurus and it was in the console between the front seats.

The radio has a button for the CD, but it would be installed in the left of the trunk....there is a jack for it there. Your car obviously doesn't have that option, but you can buy one at the Ford dealer or off of Ebay, and it would plug right in.

I have a 97 and am familiar with the setup. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help you with it.

It's that little slit on the stereo. I doubt a taurus would have a multi disc changer on it at all.

Sorry, guy, some Tauruses don't have one. Our '97 doesn't. They don't all come with a cd player. But you can get portable ones that plug into the cigarette lighter.

It would be in the trunk if it has one. This is option and you can have a factory unit installed. I have done it many many times and is very easy to install. Check with the local dealer about installing the unit and wiring.
