Nope, child would have to be born in 2006. If he/she was born on December 31, 2006 then you could claim him/her on your tax return for 2006. Otherwise, wait until next year.

Your baby would have to be born by midnight, 12-31-06 for you to be able to claim your baby on your 2006 return. Congrats anyway though - all the best to you and your baby!

No... but there are ways.......

My wife was pregnant with a predicted delivery date of Jan. 14th... When it was found out that the child was breech and she'd have to undergo a Ceasarian Section the doctor asked us to pick a date for the delivery... I asked about Dec. 31st and he said that since that was still within two weeks of expected delivery that would be okay...

The hospital told us she would be scheduled on call since so many others had also requested the same day so on December 31st, we waited for a call from the hospital and then our son was born on Dec 31st and we took the deduction for that year....

Since then he's been able to start school a year earlier because of the December date too...

No. We had our daughter on Janurary 3, 2006 and were unable to claim her on our 2005 tax return.

However, if you keep careful track of your out of pocket medical expenses (co-pays, etc.) you may get some credit for those. We did.

Good luck.

You can't claim the baby, but you can claim medical bills paid out in 2006.
