That's one of my favorite quoted verses of the Bible...

I think you can apply it to almost any and everything wrong in the world...things that folks may think are the right thing, but prove otherwise.

All the time. Remember Jerry Falwell going all the way to the Supreme Court suing Larry Flynt. Jerry Falwell began caring about his own person rather than that of Jesus and leaving things in Jesus' hands. For it he wound up making Larry Flynt (the porn magazine editor with an addict stripper for a wife) look like the smart one with reason on his side.

Pat Robertson is another example. He believes the US is under God and therefore anything that threatens the US is an enemy of God. This convinced him to then call for the assassination of Hugo Chavez for going against America, believing this would be in line with what God would want because he believes God wants to protect America. He told people to kill one of God's children because he allowed himself to believe the wrong path because he convinced himself it was God's path.

And those are the big guys, all the time we can make mistakes that while not on the level of those two are big enough to take us down the wrong path. We must always pray for God to direct our steps, and be careful to act in line with our prayers (as much as possible). And then when we do screw up (which is inevitable) to pray for God to forgive us so that we can be brought back to the right path.

In my NIV it refers me back to Proverbs 12:15 where it says The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. If it seems right but does not feel tight in the heart then it could and does lead to death. I brelieve this is what is beinf said. I know that following the Bible is a sure way to heaven but you have to listen to instruction and advice.

Yes. This way is assumed to provide entrance to Heaven and includes all religions of works and self-righteousness, but it leads to Hell, not Heaven.

Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."

Nah. Just more scare tactics. Not to mention an excuse to be as bad as you wanna be, because all it takes to get to heaven is to believe in jesus and all that.

Yes. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

Thinking the pastor is always correct and he is teaching you correctly.
That he knows what he is doing.
That the pastor represents God.
That the pastor is Godly.
That is is on God's side.

Yes, it is RELIGION, which seeks to reach upward to God, while the truth is that God has reached down to man.
