Jesus is the Way, Truth & Life.

The way to destruction is wide and many go those ways.

The way to life is narrow and few go that way.

Well, sorta --your translation is a smidge off, but this is the general idea.

This chapter of Proverbs has several verses that talk about the idea of discernment --how to figure out the best course of action in a confusing world.

This particular verse is saying that we have to be careful because something can look good but turn out to be oh, so wrong.

The Hebrew says "There is a direction (way, path, choice, lifestyle) that appears to be good to a an individual but at its end are the WAYS (plural form used here) to death.

So, not necessarily is death the outcome of the wrong decision, but you may end up on pathways that are heading in that direction, so choose wisely and with care. I like the verse that comes after which adds some meaning to this one: "Even in laughter, the heart can be sad, and the end of joy can be grief."

So, feel-good decisions are not necessarily the best ones -- these are the choices that seem right at the time, but turn out to be bad in the long run.

"In Numbers we have dramatically set forth what is perhaps the hardest lesson a Christian has to learn -- to trust God instead of his own reason. This is where we struggle, isn't it? We think that what we want to do and the way we want to do it is the right way. The hardest struggle we have, even as these Israelites had, is to learn to believe that God knows what he is talking about and that what he tells us is the truth, and is for our good, and to operate on that basis despite what friends and others around are telling us concerning the right way. Proverbs puts it so graphically, "There is a way which seems right to a man, and its end is the way to death." (Proverbs 14:12) The book of Numbers is a picture of that experience in the believer."
