Lots of behaviorists have pondered this question, but the most widely held answer is... they just like the smell! Oooh, to dogs, poo is like perfume. They HATE it when they smell all flowery and clean! That stinks to them. There isn't really much you can do to deter him from doing it, unless you can catch him in the act every single time and use some kind of aversion therapy, like spraying him with water, throwing a can full of pennies near him (not at him), making a loud obnoxious noise, or something like that to convince him that rolling around in that lovely poo really isn't worth it. Why fox poo and no other? Maybe just a preference on his part, just like women are selective about their purfume.

If you need to get the smell of Fox Poo out of your dogs coat use lots of tomato ketchup and a little viniger after shampooing, make sure you rinse it out really well.
I dont know why it work, but it does.

My dog used to do that too. We think she was horny for the fox (even though she'd been spayed) cos she used to leave gifts of toys and biscuits out on the lawn next to the rolled in poo!

Maybe he likes the smell - Dogs can smell a lot more than us humans, maybe theres a difference in the textures and smells...something in the Fox poo may appeal to him lol

convinced....I have 2 German Shorthaired innovations, who will both roll in fox poo in the journey that they get the danger. ts only a fragrance ingredient, and lots of ogs will do it...........and whats more beneficial....the scent is merely sooooo undesirable. dDaft because it ought to sound, the most proper portion of neutralise the scent is tomato juice!! merely rub it nicely into the canines fiur the position they have rolled interior the poo, then rinse off and shampoo as conventional. This quite does get rid of the scent!!

my dalmatian loves rolling in fox poo & badger poo. I've got horses & he loves eating horse poo & also cow poo on the farm which reall;y gross sometimes. it is just a dog thing & no matter how much yo try to train them out of it, it is their instinct to act like this. I think it's something to do with marking teritories.

Your dog is masking its smell - part of its hunting instinct. Fox droppings are very smelly and therefore do the job well.

Fox = same species.
Fox = wild.
For better, or for worse? is what your dog is thinking.
