Apparently he's a lapsed Satanist, but he was a member at one time.
It might be marketing, but few people actually have the first clue what Satanism means, so it wouldn't surprise me that it seemed to fit in with his image as public bogeyman.
Marilyn Manson is still on record as being an atheist though. Most people don't realise that LaVeyist Satanists are almost all atheist.

it is a good friend of Sinatra's. They see each other at the bank every week. Marilyn Manson is an entertainer with a "shtick"..
No money? No Manson. Nobody works for free.

first of all real "satanist" don't believe in a devil,and yes it is a marketing sells pitch.

He was "certified" by their "church." But, I've heard him say in interviews that he never sought them out. In a later interview he stated that he never claimed to be anti-Christian. I think he's a guy that leaves a lot of doors open for himself.

Umm...yes he is. Anton Lavey (founder of 'satanism', author of the 'satanic bible', and satanic church) was a mentor of his and he did (does) serve as a "high priest" within the satanic church.
