President Bush has been making public statements lately (e.g. on the campaign trail for candidates) to this effect: Since 9/11, we have made America safer, but Americans are not yet safe.

Setting aside ugly name-calling, what do you self-described liberals and conservatives (and anyone else) think would make Americans safe? What would it mean for this objective to be met? I hope we can ALL agree that we all want to be safe - that's fair, isn't it?

So, please answer as AMERICANS and not as people arguing for who should be elected. BEST ANSWER will have NO gratuitous labeling of one side or the other politically.

Just describe what YOU think the country and the world would look like, and what our lives would be like, in order for Americans to be safe.

I'll tell you this much, Bush declared War on Terror, but why are the borders to the north/south and the shorelines not tightly secured, specially when they decide to raise the threat level to red. There is danger everywhere, when you drive, walk, go to a movie, go out and eat. Could be a typical terrorist blowing up something or a drunk driver hitting your car. No possible way to fight terror for it is an action and we are all guilty of it. If Bush and his Administration really wanted to make America safe, the borders and shorelines would have been secured and tighly monitored in a heart beat but they are not. If Bush and his Administration really wanted to make America safe they would have gone after Osama right from the get go and never set foot in Iraq.

Overall America is pretty safe for Americans, most of America doesn't get involved in the affairs of the rest of the world, except for the US that is. So, the US is not safe because most of the rest of the world has an issue with the US and/or United Statesians in one way or another. But nobody has issues with most Americans really.

That said, what would make America even safer? disarmament. Although America is one of the least armed continents in the world (again except for the US), even less weapons would definitely make all American nations even safer. Since the US is the most armed American nation disarmament would benefit us the most.

we can no longer horde our toys in the sandbox
we need to help bring other countrys to the quaility of life we enjoy
hopefully we do this with an alternitive fuel sorce to power the new fledgling countries
also as a people we should try to encourage the reduction of faith based people
now im not saying your faith isnt important im just saying you only live here once and wether or not you have an afterlife guess what nothing you do here will matter so try to make the world a better place rather than convert the heathin masses or making a martyr out of yourself

only through communication and thought can we be free from the shackel we have inherrited

Sadly, US is one of the main culprits in the unsafe world we live in. People outside the US, especially in the third world know this, but now with the advent of Internet, people in America are becoming increasingly aware of this fact. For Americans to be safe, they should avoid doing things that hurt people in other nations, that is, avoid oppressing and assaulting and robbing people in other parts of the world...sorry I've to rush, could have written more, but the gist is there, and I think you get the drift!

There are only two terrorist countries according to the UN, they are the United States of America & Israel. If we did away with those two, we would have worldwide peace! Go Figure!

If Brush didn't do what he did. Those three planes would never have hit US in the first place and the Twin Towers would have been still there today.
