As far as light beers, both Amstel Light and Sam Adams Light are good choices. Most of them taste like water.

In order to obtain the maximum alcoholic effect with the least calories I expect you ought to have a maximum alcoholic spirit within minimum extra added sugar, with a mixer of water or soda water or low calorie tonic/mixer.

Pastis, whisky, vodka or gin mixed as above is likely to give you the biggest alcohol intake with the least calorific value. However, it is the quantity you drink which will affect the calories you intake.

Just as when you eat food, it is the quantity eaten that counts rather than it's calories per kg.

So if you had a 200 calorie beer and a 200 calorie gin and tonic with low calorie tonic water, they would both contribute the same amount of calories. The Gin and tonic would be the most alcoholic though.

If you are serious about dieting, you should eliminate alcohol for the time being.

However, if you insist on drinking, there is a drink my younger sister's friends are fond of, called a Skinny B****. It's just vodka and Diet Pepsi I believe. The soda has no calories, and there isn't much vodka in it. I don't know the exact mix, but it something like 1 part vodka, 3 parts soda.

Though there isn't much by way of alcohol in the drink, still demonstrate moderation.

Grain alcohol and water. The calories in alcoholic beverages come from carbs (4 calories/gram) and the alcohol (7 calories/gram). OK some drinks (those with cream) have some fat too (9 calories/gram). But the earlier post about not drinking alcohol if you are trying to lose weight is wise - the body doesn't process alcohol they way it does carbs, protein or fat - that's why you hear that it is empty calories. You would be better off laying off of it for awhile and then when you reach your desired weight, limit your consumption to one or two servings of drinks you really like.

It's simple - Drink Coors Light beer as Weight Watchers rate this as the lowest for all beers. Vodka Lime & Soda is refreshing and the lowest spirt based Alcoholic drink. Enjoy and Happy Slimming Days...

Vodka has the least calories. Vodka and diet coke is a fab drink. Unfortunately I drink too much of it, but I am not overweight!! Well, only a little anyway.

Caffeine free coke is a little better, as you don't get quite so hungover I find.

Good luck with the weight loss!

Any white spirits, gin vodka etc are lower in calories than dark ones (less sugars), so anything like those with a diet/slimline mixer will be the best option. Best to avoid beer all together I would say and definitely keep away from alcopops!

Red wine. If you can't develop a taste for it, order any white spirit but without a mixer; it is the sugar in the mixers that give you calories. Sip it slowly, and make sure you get double ice-cubes!
Beer is healthy and refreshing, but unfortunately high in calories!
Have a good drink!

My friend is always on a diet or 'watching her weight' and when she goes out she drinks vodka and slimline tonic. Remember it has to be 'slimline'.

When I went on a diet I gave up drinking for 6 weeks and lost just under a stone and I ain't a big girl.

Stop drinking for a bit.
