First you need to decide what store(s) you are going to register for. The rule of thumb where I live is one everyday store (Target is excellent... but walmart or kmart will work), one department store (I like Macy's, but JC Penney's, Sears, Kohl's, and Bloomingdales are also good), and one specialty store (like Williams and Sonoma, a honeymoon registry, or Bed, Bath, and Beyond).

Then go to the stores you choose or their website and tell them that you would like to set up a registry. I find that stores like Target that have online registries are better because people are more likely to use them. If you are doing it online you select the items you would like to receive and place them in the registry. It is really easy to do. If you are doing it in person the store will either give you a scanner to scan in what you want or you will write down what you want and they will enter it for you.

Weddingchannel.com has some great advice on what to register for. Normally you want to register for three times of the number of invitations you sent out and want a range of prices from $10-$250.

Good Luck!
