I am no expert but I can give you my opinion. First off, it sounds like your dog has too much energy and is bored out of his mind. Try taking him on a leash walk every day (even twice a day!) for about 45 minutes to an hour per walk. Be sure you make him heel during these walks and don't let him pull you along. About the soap. Put him on his leash and get a bar or two of soap out. Make him lay down and relax. Each time he even looks at the soap say "no" or "hey" or whatever word you use to get his attention and correct him with a small tug on the leash - don't let him get fixated on that soap. You will need to practice this a few times a day (do it in various areas of the house) until he no longer pays any attention to a bar of soap. Finally, tough you-know-what if he gets upset when you turn the news off! If he is acting out when you turn it off it is once again time to get out the leash and make him knock it off. You just need to drain off some of his excess energy and become THE BOSS around the house. He is not the boss, you are!! Watch the Dog Whisperer on the Nat'l Geographic channel. You will get a lot of good tips from that show as well. Good luck!!

And who says animals don't have an imagination and personality all their own ?? My cat is part dog lol. I'm not sure I would be worried about him acting like a cat or chasing invisible things. Unless he's putting himself in danger ?? And how old is your dog ??

Have you ever given him a bath using a bar of soap?? I was trying to picture him lathering a bar of soap, but think I'm failing there. Would it be possible to hide the soap ??

And maybe if he's upset when you turn off the news, maybe it's just "noise" he's looking for ?? The tv on low or a radio might help.

If you are really concerned about his safety etc, talk to a vet and they can usually advise you. My dog was diagnosed with "separation anxiety" and we had to put her in a cage when we went out so she would stop tearing up my bathroom floor lol.

Wish you luck.

I laughed when I read this! One thing you can never call your dog is boring! Is this a small dog or large dog? Small dogs are nervous by nature and go after anything, including shadows. The soap could go back to the primal wolf in your dog. Wolves will roll around in just about anything to cover their scent for the hunt. As to the news, well.... hmmm....maybe he was a man who loved the news in his past life. I think your dog is loaded with personality. Good Luck

He's fine. Just a little spunky. Mine sleeps under the covers at night, purposely runs into glass doors because she thinks it's funny, and humps her favorite toys. Just make sure your dog doesn't eat the soap and ignore him when he gets upset about the news. Eventually, he'll quit getting upset because he'll learn he doesn't get attention for the behavior.

Good luck!

I don't think there is anything wrong with your dog. I have a 6 year old shih tzu. He will just run around for no reason and he rolls on things too...socks, his toys, my shoes, blankets, I think they just like the smell of it. The vet also told me that dogs like the smell of detergent and soap...something about it attracts them to it. As for the news...I'm not sure maybe he just likes the noise.

Is he a young dog? sounds like a puppy. He might be seeing something you don't, a fly, mosquito, etc. Maybe he likes the scent of the soap and wants it on him to smell later? As for the news thing, no clue lol.........

Forr the most part I would just say he is healthy and happy.

For you own sake keep soap away form him and when you are turning off the news distract hilm by giving him attenion while you do it.

Have you talked to a veterinarian about this? Dogs can have mental health issues. Find a behavioral trainer; that's where I'd start.
