Silk shows up every imperfection your walls may have when the lights in the hall are on. I made that mistake painting my livingroom with Silk and it was a little uneven and it was glaringly obvious. So I say go for Matt.

Silk. Matt just looks too blah and it rubs off too easy. Use a semi gloss, not a high gloss, for your hallway. A high gloss will make a hall look too narrow and closed in. It will also make it appear darker. Be sure to prime first, or you will be able to see the tape and float areas, when the paint dries, these areas will be a darker colour than the rest of the wall.

I would use silk for a hall. Matte would scuff to easy even if you rub up against it with almost anything!! Plus with silk you can wipe it down pretty easy!!

its purely a matter of taste and choice there is no practical disadvantage except Matt will mark easier than Silk which you can just rub off with a damp cloth

Personal choice but I would never use silk on anything, it shows up EVERY imperfection on the surface you are painting.

Silk is best as its easier to wipe as the hallway tends to get a few bumps and marks.

Silk as it has a nice sheen and is very easy to wipe off any marks.

Do you mean paint (which you put on woodwork) or emulsion (which you put on walls)? I like gloss paint. Have you thought about something slightly different to ordinary emulsion for the walls? Crown do some emulsions that give different effects; the one I particularly like gives a suede effect. It comes in several colours. It's textured and has grains in it of a slightly darker shade than the emulsion itself. It's really easy to apply and I think it looks really good. I think I paid about £17.99 for 2.5 litres.
