If God is an eternal being, and exists as a Trinity, then it's obvious that both the Holy Spirit (which hovered over the waters - see Genesis ch 1) and the Word of God (later to be known as the Messiah and Jesus) were all around at the same time.
John writes and confirms that Jesus was in fact the person of the Godhead that actually created everything!!!

correct translation
Gen 1:1 "In the beginning GODS created the heavens and the earth"
Word used for God is Elohim. meaning GODS (Christians try and explain this by saying its referring to the trinity... they is WRONG!)
same word used here and other verses
Jer 19:13 The houses in Jerusalem and those of the kings of Judah will be defiled like this place, Topheth--all the houses where they burned incense on the roofs to all the starry hosts and poured out drink offerings to other GODS.' " <<<-- Elohim Translated Corectly! I wonder why..... hmmmm
Christian translators are incorrectly translating the verses purposely!!!!!! <<---- rememer i said this
Now re read Genesis and replace God with (the) Gods, it will make more sense..

EDIT
GE 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and HE separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day.
The word 'HE' in the above verse is, surprise surprise, 'Elohim' in the original. Its purposely translated to 'HE' so as to give the impression Its speaking of a Mono God. Should be translated as the GODS
Lying scribes with their Lying tongues!!!

Jesus was the first spirit being that God created and he helped his Father to create all other things, including man. So, God was speaking to his only-begotten Son when he said "Let us make man in our image."
Proverbs 8:22-30 speaks of Jesus as a helper to his Father. It reads: "The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him."
This assures us that Jesus had a beginning--he was brought forth.

Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said he's the beginning and end. So he was helping his father build the universe. The Holy Spirit was sitting by nagging making sure they were doing a good job.
