I had breakfast today and 3 hours later I'm starving again. I was hoping the breakfast would hold me until after lunch. Why does this happen?

1) Your metabolism is cranked up most in the morning, so you are more likely to burn through your breakfast.

2) Most people's breakfasts don't contain very much protein or fat. Therefore, it digests very quickly, leaving you hungry, sooner. Try to get a little fat / protein or more fiber with your breakfast. For instance, I eat eggs (or egg whites) with oatmeal... oatmeal is a slow burning carb while the eggs provide protein / fat. In addition, most people don't consume enough breakfast. Sometimes before 10am I've downed around 700 - 1200 calories (I am extremely active, however and dont' recommend that to everyone).

3) You've just undergone a long fast since you haven't eaten you went to bed. That means your body is going to use breakfast pretty darn quick to energize itself. Hence the metabolism boost.

Three hours is a long time to go between feedings. People who maintain their weight tend to eat less than every 3 hours. It keeps their energy high, they avoid overeating later, and it keeps their metabolism running at full octane.

Good luck.

You need to eat more in the morning, people eat light at breakfast and have a heavy dinner - it should be the other way around. This is an old saying but it still holds true:
Breakfast like a King
Lunch like a Prince
Dine like a pauper

Your body is functioning normally if you are hungry. DRINK lots of WATER. in between meals. then eat fruit or veggies before lunch. WATER WATER WATER. Your body must have it to cleanse and remove toxins. Then also Teas are a low calorie supplement to have and aid digestion. Green Tea is great. Keep the sugar low. I do not recommend use of artificial sweeteners. They are really bad for you. They interfere with proper brain and neurological function. Any honey is better. Water will curb the hunger a lot. Also take 10 Almonds per day in a ziplock bag for your snack time. Carott sticks and celery will give you enough fiber to take the pains away until lunch. These simple things should tide you over. Be creative. Look at websites for tips too. Try ivillage.com one of my favorites. Good luck and GOD bless JP

Because if you eat breakfast your metabolism gets a kick and starts working big time! it's called "break-fast" cause it breaks the 'fast' which is the night, when you don't eat. then eating in the morning causes calories to be burnt with the speed of light and you feel hungry again. Hunger it's just the proof that you have a high metabolism

What are you eating for breakfast? Maybe you aren't getting enough nutrients in your diet. I would say stay away from fast food breakfasts, and don't eat stuff that's high in sugar content like maple syrup or cinnamon toast.
