I am assuming you are asking about military Disability because of the category you placed your Question.
You really need to help your Mom get all the information together right now! Don't wait until something happens to your Dad. When he passes she will have to start the process of receiving his disability, not at the 100% rating, and it will take time. You might try going on line at VA.gov and look under Benefits for spouses. There are lots of forms she will need. When you and your Mom start feeling like you are being buried under paperwork contact your State Service Officer. There should be one in your area. IF your Dad used one of the Ex- Military Organizations,*** MOPH - military order of the Purple Heart. DAV - Disabled American Vets, VFW - Veteran of Foreign Wars - American Legion....etc*** in getting his 100% disability rating you can go back to them because they already would have all his paperwork. If not contact them and explain your worry about your Mom.
Good Luck! I've been dealing with the VA and Social Security for 3 years. It can be done.

Not sure of the answer under social security, but you could check their web site - www.ssa.gov.
My understanding is as follows: if the disability benefits are provided under an employer-provided disability plan, the payments will likely terminate upon your father's death. If the disability benefits are provided under an employer-provided pension plan, your mother would be entitled to at least 50% of the monthly benefit payment upon your father's death unless she waived that right when pension payments commenced.

She would be entitled to a monthly social security payment. You can check with the SS office now to determine what amount she would receive.
If he is receiving disability or other retirement payments then check with those agencies as well.

She will receive a percentage of his disability, which means she would not have enough to live on. How about Social Security. Did he pay into that? If so, she would receive about 80-90% of his retirement.

Yes. I am an insurance financial rep at a west michigan hospital. She will also still revceive health insurance benenfits too until she remarries or dies, whichever happens first. Make sure the status is changed on your father and make sure they use his #ss number.
