They have to have their ears cropped by a vet to be 'pointy'. Most stand or semi-stand without this purely cosmetic surgery, but will not have that crisp point.

Nope, pinchers have pointy ears cause their ears have been cut, as puppies, in some countries it's illegal now to do it, like here in Holland.
Its a funny site and is pretty tough to get used to, to e.g. see a doberman pincher, with floppy ears, it turns them from a "mean" looking dog, into a sweet funny dog...

"Pointy" ears, are cropped ears. This is a surgical procedure requiring lengthy aftercare which should only be done when the animal is young. Otherwise they are not erect!

Min Pins, just like dobermans have to have their ears cropped to stand. Otherwise they're big and floppy

no if you have one and it's ears aren't pointy then they won't ever be. the breeder has to train the ears to do that it's called coning it isn't painful to the dog but it is allittle aggrivating to them. and they kinda look like martians with little cones for ears.

The only way they are going to be "pointy" is if you have them cropped, which is barbaric if you ask me! It's illegal in some countries and hopefully will be here someday! It's done only for looks anyways, which I don't understand since I think dogs look better in their natural state..not chopped up..Why should their ears stand up if they're not supposed to? They look so much better with their natural floppy ears-like real dogs.

My min pin's ears never stood up. The breeder wanted to get them cropped. I said no. I think that is the only way to get them to stand up.

I LOVE THE CONING ANSWER WERE DO THESE IDIOTS COME UP WITH THIS STUFF ITS DEFIANTLY THE SURGICAL CROPPING IVE HAD THREE DOGS CROPPED..
