my right leg was in a cast forn 3 months and it shrank. Now that leg is smaller than the left leg. How do I get the left leg that was in the cast to grow and catch up with the other leg

The leg looks small from inactivity. The muscles have been relaxed for too long, but it will catch up eventually with physical therapy a good diet and supplement calcium intake (take an extra glass of milk to your daily intake).

Your Physician should certainly have referred you to a physical therapist to go to. If not then call them back and get one or call a clinic near you or look online. Check out web MD.com. It is hard to say by not seeing your leg. First consider Proper Nutrition. Lots of Vitamin C will encourage cell growth. At least 1000 mg per day. Vitamin C with Rose hips is the best. Then you will need B vitamins to grow blood cells and muscle connective tissue. The best thing to do is go to the library and ask the m to help you find some books on nutrition . Also exercise should be determined by your DR. Water exercises are always easier on your body because you do not have to bear weight on the weakened limb. You can do simple leg lifts as you sit on a chair..Get as many books as you can. Massage also increases blood flow.but be gentle. I say call your DR first and most importantly . GOD bless JP

You don't need the leg to grow, which it won't. What you need is to start exercising the leg to get the muscles back into shape. When a leg is immobilized for any reason, the muscles shrink/atrophy, but with slow and correct exercise, e.g., walking, the muscles can recover.

Talk to the doctor who put on the cast or to your family doctor.
