How do you know when you have prayed long enough? I mean if I do a one sentence prayer is God gonna feel like "That's it?" Or should it be at least a few minutes or what?

put your energies into actually DOING something to make your life better, not just bitching and moaning into thin air.

I pray about 40 minutes a day. I say the rosary which takes about 15 minutes and then I say the Litany of the Guardian Angel and then I pray several prayers for the Souls in Purgatory.

Really, it's not how long you pray, but rather how well you think about what you are saying and how much you mean what you say. If you were to only pray the Our Father prayer one time, but you did it in total meditation on the words and full of love for God, then it would mean more than a thousand prayers said without concentrating on the words.

I sometimes do mental prayer which is just telling God "thank you" or telling him I love him. This kind of prayer is very important.

this is a good question, i would say that typically most people do not spend enough time in prayer, to a certain degree it is a discipline that takes time to develope, I work at a homeless mission and at the local prison as a chaplain so I probably spend more time in prayer than most people, however to answer your question direclty, maybe 3 to 4 hours a day, but then I also believe that we can pray with our eyes open and by every word that comes from our mouths, Francis of Assisi was quoted when asked, "How do you pray" he replied with every breath. I would hope that all of us who do pray, would pray like this. I believe that God loves to hear our prayers no matter the length, but when you pray do not try to use fancy words, but pray from your heart and be humble to all the others about you and offer to pray with them whenever the situation arises.

5 times a day

lol...well the thing it was a psycological effect on us. Coz...u are busy and stressed then u come to pray and relax and RE focus ur attention in what is important.

Is like looking forward in a long term vision everytime y relax and ask God for what u want. And for a moment u leave aside what is urgent and inmediate and u recover the perspective of ur whole life right???

Any way, muslims pray 5 times a dar mainly coz we need to praise God, but also coz is like going to a river who is gonna wash ur sins. Otherwise being celibe would be more difficult. And praying this often reminds u where are u going to and helps to keep u away from sin.

The personal talking depends on any body needs. But u try to remember God the most u can, no matter what religion u are.

Prayer is developed over time. God knows who you are and knows what your thoughts and prayers are without you actually adressing them to him. If you only pray for a minute or two, then maybe that's all you needed for that day.

Well, a True Muslim will spend 24 hrs a day praying to ALLAH (GOD). Interesting, eh? If a True Muslim follows strictly to The Sunnah (Prophet's Customs) and Hadiths (Prophet's Sayings) of The Prophet Mohammad (May Peace and Blessings of ALLAH Be Upon Him), then that Muslim will be in accordance with ALLAH (GOD) 24/7. Even, when he eats, drinks, sleep, goes to his job, talk, and even when he goes to bathroom, if he Follows the Way of The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), then he will be Praying Continuously, Non-Stop to ALLAH (GOD). Peace to All.

I do not usually keep track of such a thing and it varies. I pray as I need or wish and I try to do all things as a prayer.Sometimes the greatest and deepest prayer is silence. Let the heart speak. There are also ejaculatory prayers such as: Jesus help me. Jesus be my Savior and not my judge.

Matthew 6:6-8
"6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

So, it's the sincerity of the prayer, not the length of it, that causes it to avail with God.

I personally pray all day long, off and on.

My family prays together when we dine.

My coworkers pray together to start the work day.

You need to pray at LEAST 3 hours a time, 5 times a day, for God to notice.
Anything less will send you to hell.

Good luck
