What is the deal with that? They have to keep their own last name and a new one too. What are they afraid of...what about the kids?

Are they that insecure?

One main reason women keep there maiden name and add it to the married name is because of there carreers. After awhile the dropped the maiden name and keep the married name. But the way divorce is now I would do both. Bye the way my name is Mrs. Lisa M. Thomas-Hendricks and my child name is 'ABC Hendricks and the her father names is Leslie Hendricks. I have not had any problems. And to answer your question about being insecure, No I am not and I might can speak for the other women as well. I think it is very classy and makes a statement.

When my girlfriends Mum got married she retained her maiden name. There are only 33 people in the world with the same surname and everyone of the younger generations is female. If they were to adopt their husbands name then the family name would die out and be lost for good.

My girlfriend uses a double-barrelled surname taken from her Mum's name and her Dad's name - as do both her younger and older sisters.

What a silly question? You really should get out more. Having two names is simply no big deal. Incidentally, my husband and my kids share my two last names.

Sometimes women keep their last names because of their careers - they are well known by their maiden name so they do the hyphen thing or whatever.

I took my husband's last name when we got married - and ditched my maiden name. I'm so glad I did - I can't stand it when women do the two last name thing.

In addition to the wierd factor it makes alphabetizing kind of difficult. It's hard to decide...do you use the first last name, or the last last name?!? Anarchy!

I have no idea, but it's annoying. Particularly when you have a crappy maiden name of "Steinenbreinerbach' and you marry a 'Nichols'. Why the hell would you want to be Steinenbreinerbach-Nichols?

*shakes head*
