If I could I would go, because it is such a prestigious honor to be accepted into a world where only the best and brightest are chosen/and those who want it the most-survive, rewarding is the experience you are getting because you are training to be leaders of America, training to serve this beautiful country-a decision you chose. After I participated in encampment part of CAP (Civil Air Patrol), I realized that I could live that regimen 24/7-and encampment being only one week-I knew I would miss it greatly and have to make the most out of it. Attending an academy would give me that regimen 24/7 and I know that it would help me become an independent and go through a life that would bond me with people alike who are coming together as one to try and make it through a challenging yet rewarding education/lifestyle-and I wanted to/could live that way. I think Service Academies are like the Harvard of the military-you stick out when applying for a job, when your resume reads you graduated from a Service Academy, it's a great accomplishment-because to get there and graduate, it was a very rigorous path-and you chose to follow it, and succeeded. It's rewarding in a way because all of your hard work has paid off-and because it's government territory when you travel to events as a whole-it's paid for-and you get money monthly, and free room and board-but most of all you are serving America. Over all, anyone who wants to attend a Service Academy is going, because they want to accept the challenge that lays ahead- they know they have worked hard enough to get there, and the academy will help mold them into being the best leader they knew they could be and will help them mature into being confident in every decision they have to execute-serving this beautiful country-even under strenuous pressure-that's why they attend-for the challenge and for the the reward that lays ahead, when accomplished.

There might be loads of reasons to join the militairy.

It might be that you want to contribute to the world and help other countries with their struggles. For example Bosnia. Where Bosnia asked the UN to aid them and restore peace.

It might be because you are proud and thankfull for the opportunities you get in your own country and wish to do something in return.

In America there is the system that you can get an education,
once you join the militairy.

That still doesnt answer your question about the Academy part.

Why join at the Officers level?
I was an NCO, did 4 years of service, and thought well, what they do I can do to, maybe even better. Officers have a bit more to say and can help in other ways soldiers can. I had a certain mandate which would allow me to make choices in when and where, choice I woulndt have when being a NCO.

I could dispatch a group of my men to go out and help rebuilding a school, whereas a general could choose to establish a long term development program, completely reorganising the infrastrucure.

Hope this gives you some insight on the matter

Too old to go to one now but I would have liked to have gone because of the honor and the tradition that the service acadmies hold. I would have most likely gone to the Naval Academy

You get a great education and it is impressive as heck on a resume. It shows that you are not only educated but you have discipline and honor. It's the hardest way to get an education that I know of. I truly respect those that go this route.

I've never been to one, but I'd guess it's to get a good education, or join the military afterwards, or because it's a family tradition.
