College cars have to hold lots of stuff and get you and three buddies to concerts and dates. So I would reccoment a New Nissan Versa check one out or Honda Fit, Toyota Yarus, Chevy Avieo All are great begining cars All above should cost less than 17 thousand

Do you plan on buying new or used? I would suggest a used car with about 50,000 miles on it or so maybe more. Cars are actually "broke in" until about 25,000 miles. First narrow it down, do you want a car or a truck? The car would probably get better gas mileage, and guessing that you are still a student it would probably be the better option. I'd check out Saturns (cheap to maintain, good on gas, spacious inside, few problems), Toyotas(good on gas, few problems, a little more pricey), Cavaliers, and anything else like that. Volkswagens are good reliable cars, but get pretty expensive, but they do have a finance program that offers a low interest rate for first time car financers. Test drive a couple cars and set some limits. Go to a couple different dealers.

I got my current car at Carmax, and had a good experience there. It gave me a chance to look at and test drive a lot of different cars in one place.
