A true Christian is one in whom dwells the Holy Spirit.
It's got nothing to do with the way they lead their lives, this is legalism. But we would expect God to slowly change their nature and that they will not only desire to, but indeed become, more like Jesus as time goes on, and therefore less and less worldly.
Christianity is a community, and it would be rather anti-social if someone who was a Christian blatantly did as he or she wanted. I would then have doubts as to whether that individual was truly converted - the Bible says "you shall know them by their fruits"

A Christian is someone that knows the difference between right and wrong, who has a conscience. They 'can' do as they please, but they know and feel what may be wrong in their own eyes, eyes of the Lord, but also their own eyes.
A Christian does 'not' have the right to judge others . only the Lord has the right to judge. A Christian has experienced the different ways of life, and has learned that the only way that makes them truly happy is by following their beliefs. They have found what their soul has been searching for! As we all Search, but not quite sure 'just what' we are searching for till we feel good in the soul.
Therefore, being a Christian is a personal thing.. a place where they can feel happy and where they want to be.

Sword / Lord,
A Christian is a Christian because he chose to go God's way instead of his own way. The center of the faith in Jesus Christ, who is God who came 'to strike a tent of human flesh' and became the kinsman Redeemer for all mankind. A Christian will believe that Jesus was the Son of God, and the Word of God, beofre He became Jesus. He is the same essence of God. He is God and man at the same time.
The True Christian Lifestyle is one of dedication. I've already mentioned that we've turned from our own way, and have turned to Him for direction to discover His way. We are guided by His word, and His Spirit. Because the Spirit of God, the same one that raised Jesus from the dead, dwells in us, and we become New Creations in Christ Jesus. We have the "old man", sin in us, and at the same time the Holy Spirit. The two are at war with eachother in our bodies. The more we exercise our faith, the more the Holy Spirit will work in us. We begin to change and it starts appearing on the outside by our behavior. It does not mean that we live clean lives, but it does give evidence of the direction that God is sending us in.
A Christian is someone who values all that I have written about, and endures hardships with the idea, " God's word says it, and I am going to defy the circumstances and believe God." Faith is active in this kind of Christian.
So it's not, "How clean am I?" It's "Thus saith the word of the Lord."
"Can a christian just live any way they want and it doesn't matter???"
Yes. Actually he can. But if there is faith involved, the believer is the co habitation of the Holy Spirit. What God does is begins to change that person, not according to what many Christians think they should do, but according to the urges and influences of the Holy Spirit,
You see, I fnd that your question, thatis; the tone of it shows a sort of focusing upon self. When our focus should be in Jesus. We CAN really trust Him to work us through anything personal. What Christians tend to do is focus on their view of what OTHER PEOPLES SINS are. Rather than keeping their eyes on Christ.
So your question uses the phrase,"and it doesn't matter" well it might, matter, but to that person does it matter. God works with the individual personally.

A true Christian is one who pays more attention to the spirit of the law than to the word of the law, and never preaches what he, himself, can't or won't practice.
There are least as many toy Christians on the boards as proper Christians. But then, there is no shortage of stupid and mentally defective atheists pretending to be Christians in order to further some puerile little agenda of their own as well.
Happily, the proper Christians stand out head and shoulders above the idiots by virtue of the decency they demonstrate - even when it must be tempting to put down the Bible and pick up the baseball bat... :o)

A Christian is one set apart, who is different from the world. Christ like. They was first called Christians at Antioch. They didnt have to tell them they was a Christian, but the people saw Christ through them. To many people call themselves Christian, well let your life prove it and stop trying to convince everyone else by saying it. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.

the word "christian" means the follower & imitators of christ. the ultimate goal for a christian is to be an exact replica of Jesus, body, soul & spirit. JC lead the way in being able to be fully human on earth (with the Holy Spirit for companion) & yet have constant communication with His heavenly Father. this is why he can work many miracles & speak many words of wisdom. these are all empowered to Him by God. that is how christian should EVENTUALLY (day by day process) be like.

First, a little background. The term "Christian" was coined by the Romans as a slur. It means, "Little Christ". It alluded to people in society behaving like Christ did. It was like having a bunch of "Jesus'" all over the place.
So, those who live out their lives, following Jesus' example, are the real "Christians". Doing what Jesus did; no more, no less.

Well, perhaps you hit the nail on the head earlier.
Either you are Christian or you aren't. "Do you believe in Jesus, that His death is the only thing that can truely forgive you of all your sins and allow you eternal life with Him." If yes, then Christian.
Frankly, in my opinion everything else is insignificant. Even comments made about Harry Potter. ;)
Man tends to think he can make atonement for himself through 'good works and deeds'. All are meaningless if one doesn't place his faith in Christ.

A true Christian, to me, is someone who lives Love, plain and simple. Someone who admits their faults and how God may or may not be helping them through it. Someone who admits that the walk with Him is not an easy one. Our greatest commandment from Christ was to love one another, so that is the first thing someone calling themselves a 'true Christian' should be all about.

A. A true Christian is someone who is in a right relationship with God, saved, one who has trusted in, relied on fully, put his/her faith in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior. If one does this, we are told in Scripture,
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved..." Acts 16:31 and John 1:12 - "12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name.
A true Christian's life should be different - God calls Christians to follow Jesus and live holy lives - 1 Peter 1:15-16(But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living. For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy.) Also understand that Christians do sin and fail, it has been said a Christian is not sinless, but should "sin less", and become more and more like Jesus every day - that is God's goal for every Christian - Christ-likeness. See Romans 8:28-29 - We are assured and know that [[j]God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.
29 For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness].
P.S. Opinions are like noses - everybody's got one - go to the Scriptures to get God's word on it.
