If youre determined only choosing from these two breeds consider what you want from your dog. Yorkies have a 'terrier' temperament which is better suited if there are children or other dogs present. The yipping yapping and biting is the result of the owner...not the dog!
Terriers of long hair such as yorkies takes more grooming. Also, chihuahuas have a tendency toward being Alpha type personality so all family members must be pack leader or you will get a biting dog. This behavior is more pronounced after it becomes an adult by age 2.
If you are going to hold the dog in your arms a lot...in the first couple of years make sure that it gets passed easily from person to person.
In your arms it may get possessive and bite or growl. Never allow that.
Scold and put the dog down immediately.
Just a 'tip' for ya. I prefer the yorkie. Ive had both breeds.

You are asking a question that falls under the category of Personal taste. No matter what.. you should read this Web Page first before deciding: http://www.irishdogs.ie/Articles/Pros_and_Cons_when_Choosing_a_Specific_Breed_of_Do.htm

Cons: Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas are subject to a fair number of health problems. Many could be controlled by more knowledgable breeding practices and understanding of canine genetics. Sadly too many chihuahua breeders don't seem interested.

So slipping knee caps (patellar luxation) is a very common reason for pain and limping in the breed. Various eye problems are also common.

The temperament is greatly dependent on the temperament of the parents, particularly the mother. Good temperament also doesn't seem of great concern to many breeders. The mother's behavior is the window for seeing what the pup's will be.

It is a breed heavily impacted by pups for bucks breeders. It takes a lot of caring to take the time to find a breeder concerned about the health and welfare of the dog combined with the knowledge to know how to put those concerns to work.

Pros:
They certainly do not eat much.. They are small.. and CUTE

Pros(Yorkshire Terrier)

Adorable.. cute

The Yorkshire Terrier, "Yorkie", is a high energy and exciting little terrier who thinks it's as big as a Great Dane. Demanding but dependent on their human friend, and are great pets for apartment dwellers and the less mobile. They "tolerate" children as long as the child knows who's in charge. A Yorkies' long and silky hair will require regular brushing. Training is a must as a Yorkie will rule the roost if allowed. They can be the perfect, long-term companion, loyal and loving, and easy to transport

Cons of a Yorkie:

a) Does need lots of grooming (shedding)
b) Needs lots of human attention

All dogs tend to take personality cues from their owners. My happy household has an adorable 4 year old chihuahua. She is friendly (as long as we OK it), clean, low maintenance and very loving. She only barks when someone comes and knocks on the door. She plays well even with small children. She does have the occasional accident if she has to stay home alone all day, but she's really easy to clean up after. I've never had a Yorkie, so I can't speak for them, but chihuahuas are wonderful pets if properly cared for, like most dogs.

Personally, I prefer Yorkies...I had my little girl for 15 yrs and still miss her everyday. Neither of these breeds is naturally a "snippy" or "snappy" breed-its all in the way they are raised! It's the same with any breed of dog...My Yorkie never snapped once in her entire life..or showed any signs of aggression. She was sweet as can be and had a great personality! She would actually make a variety of noises when you talked to her-like she was talking back..growling, whining, etc. I could go on forever about how great she was but......You must be prepared for the time involved with a little dog like this! They are literally like babies and you can't just take a break from them..they can be very demanding so you have to firm with them, that's what prevents them from turning into little tyrants! Also, many small dogs come with a number of health problems such as heart murmers, dental issues, trachea collapse, etc...If you are buying from a breeder, check the parents out! If from a shelter..just be prepared. They are definitely worth the trouble and money..I wouldn't of traded my little girl for anything else!

Go for a Miniature Pinscher.
You get the best from both breeds you want then.

They look like a stronger chihuahua, and they love snuggles and playing but they have the attitude and fiestiness of a terrier.

My Min Pin is 6 months old and is perfect. I adore him. x

But whatever dog you choose, you'll fall in love with their individual characters, not their breed.

Why don't you go to the dog sanctuary and rescue a homeless dog, why do you need a Yorkie or Chihuahua, I'm sure you would fall in love with a homeless dog if you just saw their little faces, they need a home too - don't forget them!

We had a boxer X rescue dog, then 3 years later got a Chi. They got on famous. The Chi is our 3rd one......she is now 13....never had any probs with her at all. Good house dog, certainly lets me know when anyone is around. Not one person orienated, loves everyone....but then that was how she was bought up !!
Must admit though, she hates children now, but, that is only as one child wouldn't leave her alone, even though she was told to leave her alone.
Don't really need a lot of exercise. My Aunt has a yorkie, but, I find her snappy. The cost of cutting her "beautified" is enough, all that hair cutting.
Its a shame the price of Chis are high, but, if you look round you wont end up paying high for one. :)

I have a chihuahua he is very friendly towards me (he licks my face and hardly and ever leaves the room i am in) but will snap at my friends and other members of my family. If you do get a chihuahua introduce him to lots of new people so he gets used to it and won't feel the need to snap at people.
