Atheism is not a worldview. It doesn't carry any obligation to any kind of political or moral system. In that sense, it is amoral. Note that it is amoral, not immoral. Immorality is flouting the conventions of one's own morality; amorality is being without morality.

You would be justified in asking, then, if this means that in practical terms that Atheists have no morality. The answer is, of course, that Atheists can and do have morality and ethical codes. What the amorality of Atheism entails is a lack of obligation to any system of morality.

An Atheist can have any system of morality he or she wishes.

Why should an Atheist be moral, without a god to make him to do so? You may as well ask why he should use his head for something besides a mobile hat rack. Morality is a built-in condition of humanity; the moral tendency exists in just about everyone, barring psychopaths.

You're a phony, but I'll play along.

We take our lessons in immorality from Christian prisoners, who outnumber those of other beliefs by at least 80% to 20%.

It's no small wonder that we imprison more people per capita than any other country in the world. With all these immoral Christians running around, we don't have a choice.

Thanks for posting these phony questions, though. Any effort to expose the truth about Christianity is appreciated, especially if it involves someone who really behaves like a Christian.

u make me ashamed. y do u provoke atheists who havent done anything to u? just cuase someone is an atheist doesnt mean they dont have morals or dont try to do the right thing, its sad for us Christians when someone doesnt love God, but insulting a group of people with stereotyped acusations doesnt change that. if u really want to show athiests the love of God, try having a little of it urself by showing others compassion and not judge. who knows, maybe ur kindness will impress someone enough to consider becoming a Christian themselves, but insulting incocent people sure wont.

If Atheists have no morals, why is something like 80% of the population in prison Christian?

And no, Atheist women are not more likely to prostitute themselves. The do have morals, as well as self respect.

Religion does not equal moral and ethical values.
More deaths are caused in the name of idiotic, right-wing, dark age religion than in the name of atheism. Atheists realize that all this stupid, side-taking religion is leading to the killing, it is helping with racism, and generally no good for humanity.
One day, (Hundreds if not thousands of years from now, if the religious @$$ don't get us all killed first)religions will finally start to die out, only then can we unit as human beings and put aside racial differences, and then make real heaven on earth.
I love the fact that self-righteous, soul-soliciting @$$ religious groups think atheists are evil with no morals.

Atheist have morals you idiot. They just dont believe in God.
I'm an agnostic girl, and I love my body and think it's a temple.
Sure I dont believe I'll go to hell for pre-nuptial sex, but that doesn't mean I'll sleep with anyone I meet.
It's the same for other Christian sins. Just cause I'm not Christian, doesn't mean I will steal and murder, I still think that's wrong.
It's like the stupid conservatives who I went to school with, who believed anyone not Christian is Satanic. How stupid can you get?

What a wonderfully pugnacious question to ask. Unfortunately the basis of the question is invalid. Since of course being atheist does not mean you have no morals. Nice try though.

I love the way your name is an indication of your intelligence. You don't even have to put a question in the box to attract an anwer. It's a given that whatever you ask will be stupid and not worth an answer, except to get two points.

I do not think atheists are without morals. Morality has more to do with being human than with an ideology like religion or belief in god.

Where did you get that from? Atheists have morals but they aren't set out by some out of date book. I'm an atheist but i know its wrong to steal and kill. Lets not kid ourselves, christians commit crimes all the time, where were their christian morals then?
