I like this guy, I think he's sweet and shy, not to mention cute. The problem is that I don't want to come on too strong. I intend to give him my phone number today, but I don't know if I should just give him my phone number plainly, or to write something else like, "Call me". I want to get to know him real well before I decide to take it any further.

Well, the guy has shown interest in me; he recently asked me about where I live, and we have little conversations here and there. I asked him this past Friday what his plans were for the weekend, and he answered that he might catch a movie. I mentioned "The Ilusionist" --it's my kind of film--and I was surprised he asked me in a genuine way if it's a good movie. Everyone who works with him tells me he's very quiet, and that he doesn't open up to just anybody; and that if he's talking to me it's because he has taken an interest in me as well.

I think if he's shy, it would help if you wrote something a LITTLE more informative for him besides just your phone number on a piece of paper. Don't be too forward, but write something he'll find interesting.
I think "call me sometime" would be a good thing. It's subtle and instructional. After he calls you once or twice, ask for his number so you can return the favor. Calling him will help ease the anxiety related to his shyness.
Something I use to do when I wanted someone to call me was I'd start a conversation with him, then I'd abruptly say I needed to leave, then I'd give an excuse. Before I'd walk away, I'd write my number on his palm and tell him to call me later so we could finish the subject. If you write your number on his hand, you'll be on his mind the rest of the day!!

If you want to give him your number just give him the number and say "Call me" and if he calls it might show you he's interested in checking you out. But if he is shy, just giving him a number might not be enough to push him to call you because his shyness might prevent him from being that open.
Maybe before giving him the number you can do other little things to see if he notice you or you can approach him in a kind and gentle manner to open him up to the possibility of dating you.
But always remember when you give someone your number and they didn't ask for it you might or you might not get a call in return but don't let it get you down that's life.

Seeing as this guy is shy I would set up the first date with him. More often than not shy guys or women will open up after that first meeting. If you simply leave your number he may not even call. Not because he doesn't like you but because he is afriad you might not like him. Be strong for this one time and then give him room to open up to you. Let him get to know you as well as you get to know him. Hope it works out...

i think you should start a casual conversation and talk about what ever you 2 talk about on a every day basis and then kind of out of on where say... hey.. i have to get going, but you should call me some time... and get out a piece of paper and write it down in front of him and hand it to him and say bye... hope to talk to you soon.. and walk away. leave the rest to him. but if he does not end up calling you, do not get upset cause that is what boys do, they wait till the very last min.. i do not know why, that should be your next posted question!

What i would do is something like: hey so what are your plans for this weekend, ever been to so and so ____. Well i would love to hang out some time, give me a call, Let do something this weekend. That always works for me.
