I know now days cameras can be connected to the computers and t.v.s and stuff. But maybe I can learn something new if others share their experiences with me. Thank you.

I pursue photography as a passion my leisure time. Your question on the digital camera's field of area seems to be incomplete. All digital cameras since the past few years are made to have USB facility which will act as an interface with not only computers, but also with many others utilities.

As such the options given, the digital camera what you are looking depends on the field you want it to be used. If you are looking for just aim & shoot sorta stuff, there is even no need to be brand conscious.

Just be sure a digital camera has the following features atleast:

One of the main ways that manufacturers categorize their digital cameras is in terms of pixel count. What this is is the number of individual pixels that go into making each image. Today this number varies between 1 million (1 Megapixel) to around 14 million (14 Megapixels). A million pixels is abbreviated to MP, so a 1MP camera has 1 million pixels and a 3MP camera has 3 million pixels. ( I suggest you for a 3mp pixel digital camera)

Be sure to see that it has memory card slot, so that you can access the data via the memory card reader. The memory cards, comes in so many formats nowadays with varying capablities, in terms of speed and memory capacity. ( Just go for a 512 mb card)

Battery is one important factor, which should not be neglected. It has to be either a lithium or NiCd based technologiy. This makes the performance of your camera at all times, excellent. Branded cameras comes along with software cd, charger, carrying case, manual & warranty. (some companies charge extra for this)

If your needs are very basic, dont go for a zoom this time. They cost more and as I said work specific. I hope you would decide now to buy what!! Good Luck.

For a good consumer-friendly camera, I recommend Canon. For a more professional camera for enthusiasts, I recommend Nikon.

Incidentally, Costco now has a superb deal on an Olympus SP-350 camera for $200. This is a nice point-and-shoot camera for an excellent price.

As for your computer, I recommend Photoshop, or at least Photoshop Elements. Learning the software is just as important as getting the right camera, and time spent climbing the learning curve is time well spent. You can fix a lot of image problems in software, so take the time to learn how to use it.

Incidentally, below are links to two pictures I took about a month ago in Alaska. I took these with my Canon A700 point-and-shoot camera. The mountain is Mt. McKinley, which the locals call "Denali." It is the highest mountain in North America.

For point & shoots, pretty much the entire range by Canon and Kodak is great. If you're looking for a digital SLR camera, stick with Canon and Nikon.
If you're looking for specific features, it can pay to do some research at sites like http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp
When you see something you like, check for a review at http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html before you make your final decision!
