It depends on your needs. I love a nice interior and the CLK Elegance sand interior is the nicest I've seen up to that price range. It will probably turn heads more than a Saab 9-3, BMW C-Class Convertible, or an Audi A4 Cabriolet. Apparently the Saab interior trim is a bit cheap; and residuals are poor compared to the rock-solid residuals of the CLK Cabriolet. But otherwise both are great cars.
Don't be put off by stigma that some people attach to Mercs. The only reason people think they're for old men is because usually only old men can afford them. To call the CLK, SLK, and SL old-men cars is crazy.

My vote goes for the Saab based on styling. But because I don't know the models or years you are looking at I can't give you safety ratings or the gas mileage. They should play a part in your decision.
Plus Saabs have the appearance of a high quality nice looking car... Mercedes does as well, but they are more common among everyone than Saab.

difficult decision..both are really good marques, build quality is excellent, and they last, my mates got a 96 E220 diesel with 260000 on it and it runs like new... and does 43mpg (diesel)
and saabs, well they make the sexiest delta wing fighter, the viggen, and statistically saabs are the safest car in the world... but, showjing some loyalty to volvo, (ive got one) look at the S80 convertible...cheaper than the merc or the saab... and as a volvo, itll last 25 years, or 350.000 miles...on its original engine...

when buying a car, don't be ruled by your heart. the depreciation on a Saab is way above market average, and a Merc is below. so if you cant decide, let you pocketbook do it for you-pick the merc

i used to drive a saab 900 convertible. chose it over other luxury marques because the swedish beauty appealed to me not only in its performance and safety standards but also the fact that it is unconventional, quirky even. i wanted a car that reflected my individuality, not something that i needed to show off with. its manouverability and control were excellent. i also liked the functionality of each aspect of its design. saab traditionally built airplane engines and the car is reputedly one of the safest on the road. have since traded in for an SUV when the kids arrived.

It's definately better than the saab. Hardtop for a start and has more street cred than the old mans favourite company Saab.
