This is an honest question, not looking for anger or anything- I just read a comment that the Bible was written by man, but the Qu'ran was written by God- How? What are the differences between the Qu'ran and the Bible. Please note- all answers without due respect for others will be reported. I am not looking for offence, just honest answers please.

The Holy Bible was sent for a specific group of people in a specific region by God (Allah) through Jesus, and although it is the word of God, it was (and still) is getting altered by man to suit and fit with the laws and constitutions created by man. And therefore shatters away its jurisdiction and credibility. You'd see that the bible has many versions(editions), and some which apply in a certain country, are not 'valid' in the other, and some actually contain differences in crucial subjects and have their own language twist that could lead to big differences in interpretetions.

While the Holy Quran, the last word of God sent to all people, was promised protection by God from any alterations by man, and it covers every aspect of our lives, death and the afterlife with sets of specific rules and guidance to how we can go about through life. You will never find a different version of the Holy Quran ever. It is being preserved by God, read and learnt by devoted muslims around the globe to keep it the way it is delivered to Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

In short (and this topic shouldn't be put short, for its high significance) The Holy Quran is a last book of revelation that illustrates our lives and beyond, that we, Muslims, abide by and follow. Difference in Quran interpretetions are very minor and behavioral only and do not affect ones faith or understanding (example: it is prefered to eat with your right hand rather than your left; or enter a toilet with your left foot rather than right..etc)
While in the case of the Bible, man has altered it to his own laws and preference.

It should be clear that muslims believe in The Holy Bible delivered through Jesus (aka Eissa, aka Jashua) as a prophet sent by the same God (Allah) that created Mohammed (pbuh) and the universe and you and me.

Dear Claire P,

I really wish that giving you this answer was easy, but there is no simple answer. There are many similarities in the teachings, just as there are many differences in the interpretations.

My recommendation is that you find someone knowledgable in the Bible (if you yourself are not of course), and someone knowledgable in the Qu'ran (again if you yourself are not) and ask them to spend some time discussing these books with you.

A more true and honest answer will not be found here because it would be labour intensive to list the differences on yahoo answers.

Both the Bible and the Qur'an were/are words of God.

The Bible however, was changed several times by man, either intentionally, or through mistranslation.

The Qur'an was not.

The Bible was written down quite a few years after the death of Jesus(pbuh), different versions exist by different saints.

The Qur'an was written during the lifetime of the Muhammad(pbuh). So there is only one true version of the Qur'an, only one book. In Islam, unlike in Christianity, great importance is given to memorizing the Qur'an.

If you want all the differences, that will take a loooooong time.

There are quite a few differences and similarities between the Bible and the Qu'ran, but only because the original book (which was a book ful of bedtimes stories) has been adapted so many times in so many places by so many cultures, that the stories appear to have been lost in translation.

All books of this genre were written by one man (or possibly one woman) many years ago and because of its appeal, others copied it and made up their own version. Therefore conflicts arose when people realized that there were similarities.

The Bible was written over a period of 1600 years by over fourty writers. The theme is continuous throughout the book. It is the only religious book that details the failures of the human writers. It's details are verifiable. It is scientifically and historically accurate. It's prophetic writings about Alexander the Great were written centuries before his birth as well as prophecies about Persian kings and Jesus Christ. Archaeologica evidence for the existance of King David was only discovered recently, verifying the Bible's accuracy.

The Quran was written by an epileptic who heard voices during siezures. He wrote down what the voices said. It was written 600 years after the last book of the Bible in an effort to sway Christians and Jews over to following one of the many Arab gods. (Al'lah the moon god.)

The following links might be of use. Note that the sites below are Christian websites that are trying to prove that Christianity is true, and that Islam is false, so I admit that it is biased, but it should give you an idea of what the legiminate differences are between the two religions:
