I've heard that the tablets you can take can damage your liver and the topical treatments don't really work. Is this true? Any ideas?

A home remedy for nail fungus is to apply Vicks Vapo Rub every night after bathing and before bedtime. Wear socks to keep the stuff off the sheets and on your nails. It takes several weeks to months for it to completely cure, but it works. Sounds odd, but it works.

Keep cutting & trimming the nail straight across until all the fungus is gone.

Or you can visit the Dr & pick up an rx for it.'

Lamisil (terbinafine) helps in fungal nail infection. The dosage is 1 tablet a day for 11/2 month for finger nails and for 3 months for toe nails. Yes it is known to cause liver toxicity but very rarely... Most doctors would not even ask for a liver profile before prescribing Lamisil. Most severe liver problems were seen with Ketoconazole (Nizral) not Lamisil.
Other medicines which are relatively safe are Fluconazole (Diflucan) but you need to take it Once a week for almost 6-12 months. Topically there is a nail lacquer called Onylac which would work but would take ages about 1 year.

But dont get scared and not take Lamisil. It a sure treatment for onychomycosis.
Meet the doctor.

There is Lamicil but, it is very hard on your liver. I heard that you could use viniger apply twice daily to the infected area. Also vicks. My doctor told me to keep my nails painted with clear nail polish, i have been doing that and it seems to be helping. Or you could go to a foot doctor and maybe they could help you. It take several months for any of these things to work so be patient.
Good luck.
