She will be hanging with her friends the next night but wants to hang with mom & dad and do something on her birthday. Any good ideas? Something we would all enjoy? A good play in town? Night time Zoo? Bon fire at the beach?

first i guess it would depend on where u live but a nice fancy dinner in a great restaurant with a gift of a piece of jewlery would be spectacular.give her a piece of jewlery that she will always wear and that will remind her of that special 19th b-day.your baby is now becoming a woman how scary is that?i know i have 3 boys all around that age and would make their b-days as special as possible.have fun and enjoy your special night.

Hmmm. That's tough. It's not really a surprise, so why don't you ask her what she wants to do. Here are some ideas: A good movie or play, a nearby amusement park (amusement park are fun for adults even, wouldn't you agree), scratch the zoo idea-it's tiring, sometimes unconfortable weather, and all you do is look at animals. Maybe you could take her out to a really nice restaraunt and buy her a meal and dessert then take her to a movie. Adn if there is a beach nearby and you can start a fire there, i'll tell you what I enjoy- roasted hot dogs and smores (experience). Or maybe you could do something totally different!

Does she like to Scrapbook or anything like that? Does she like to do anything her dad likes? If so, then spend a while with her doing something she enjoys and then let her spend time with dad, then go out to eat or cook her her fave meal while she's doing something with dad, and then have a nice family dinner and discuss the day's happenings. or go to a movie together after instead of dinner or both!

So she wants to do something with Mom and dad that's nice for a 19 tear old. I agree with the other poster that said put a book together of her last 18 years, Also I would suggest that you start the tradition of giving your daughter cash for how ever many years she is old. I know 19 dollars doesn't seem like much, but you can get her other presents too, but just keep up the tradition, $20.00 next year and so on. You mentioned three good examples of what to do on her birthday, why not give her a few suggestions and have her pick one. She may just want to spend time with you so be sure one of the suggestions is something at home, ya know cook - out with her favorite foods and board game that the whole family likes. I heard sequence is a good one, and imaginiff. You sound really nice, I am sure whatever you pick it will be great. It is nice to see families that are so close.

Having grown up in La Jolla, I think you should go with your own intuition in this and since you said yourself bonfire at the beach, I think you have something. The S.D. coast is amazing, and most of my best memories are linked to it. Come early for the sunset and stay until it is dark. bring dinner, a present. Could be really phenomenal. It is very cool that she wants to hang with you, that is already a touching sign. So where exactly? La Jolla Shores is too common; a lot of unnecessary noise. Marine St. still has fire rings? if so that is more intimate. Otherwise anything in between is more intimate but without fire rings. Say the area below the Museum of Contemporary Art. And if she is into art you can always hang out in the sculpture garden (with admission) that has the view of the ocean too.
Have a great time! Lucky girl!

How about a mystery day out - where you have several different things planned for her but don't tell her what they are. You could start with b.fast in bed for her then maybe a trip to gallery (if she's into that) or shopping then to lunch or picnic somewhere, a movie in the afternoon and then a bonfire on the beach - just as an example. Make it up of the things she's likes most and make it different and fun but don't tell her about any of it let her discover it as it happens - give her a card announcing she is having a mystery 'all about her' birthday day in the morning (maybe with her b.fast in bed) and take it from there.

19th Birthday Gift Ideas

A really interesting play, maybe a movie(but that seems like more of a friends thing), or a good dvd/or volleyball game on the beach followed by the bonfire on the beach idea u suggested. If you're up for it get stay at a hotel and spend the day at an exhilarating amusement park. If you go 2 busch gardens they even have performances. I hope you find the perfect way to spend time w/ ur daughter on her 19th B-Day.

I make a habit of buying "stock" in a company for every birthday ! It may not be a FUN DAY gift but kids need to start learning about real life NOW !! It gives the kids something to research, add to, follow, and learn about investing at ANY age. It is also a good time to start an IRA, for by the time the teen is 65 that little investment will have grown wonderfully ! There are many MANY companies that you DO NOT need a broker for. I buy directly from the company, no hidden costs or surprises.

Of course money is always the best! Take her to a good restaurant and spend the night talking and walking on the beach and let her know your thoughts and dreams for her and just hang out together.Watch home movies of when she was younger look at old pics. My daughter and I are so close more like sisters and she just turned 20. Her friends think that i am the coolest mom (I'm 43). She cherishes time that is spent just us two together. Her dad & I divorced when she was 4 and she has not spent a lot of time with him, but she is close to him to. She has grown in to a nice young lady and i would not take anyhting for that in the world. She doesn't do drugs or smoke, we are very open about all that and the negative effects of it. I am thankful that we are that close because i was not that close to my parents. hope this helps.
