I have an Debretts Etiquette book which is great fun to refer to. I have just looked up your predicament and there is no mention of this unwritten rule. I wouldn't worry about it, judge at the time what the rest of the ladies are doing. There is one problem with taking your hat off, is where to put the damn thing without it being damaged. Good luck and have fun.

If u are at a real formal posh do then yes it is. If u are at a wedding where some have hats and some don't then it doesn't really matter. I would ask either the mother of the bride if u know her, how she feels about it, cos etiquette like that may be important to her and it would mean a lot on the day. If u are not in a position to really ask her, then ask the bride or someone close to her if this is something that would please her mother.
Have a fab day!!

I've never been to a wedding where people were wearing hats, but I would think the more important question of etiquette would be whether the hat was obstructing anyone's view of the ceremony.

The hats aren't usually removed. When you wear a hat it stays on. I would say if the Mother of the Bride remover hers, then follow suit.

attempting to scouse borrow interest far off from the bride, with the white, and the marriage isn't a funeral for the black. i think of the bridegroom might look ideas-blowing in a black tux with a claret cravat. i do no longer see how silver gray is going to look good against the bride's claret and white. perchance that's going to be you donning the silver gray, and the different mum a gold.

You shouldn't really remove it at all - but people generally do at some point nowadays, especially if there is a disco. I've never heard that you should wait for the MoB to take hers off.
