I need to reduce my BP and sort out my wee (!) as I'm told this is or could be pre-eclampsia. My widwives are telling me my hope of a homebirth is slipping away, and are advising me to reconsider. What can I do to get my homebirth back?!

You can hardly say my midwife knows me, I've seen a different one at every appointment, never seeing the same one twice. They all say they'll assess the situation next time, and the next midwife says the same - and on and on. My question really - is there anything I can do to reduce my BP before I get full blown pre-eclampsia? In all truth the midwives are not being very helpful.

There is not alot you can do apart from rest and stop worrying. The more you worry the higher your blood pressure will become.
I had the same problem, so in the last few weeks of my pregnancy I did nothing.

Is your midwife in contact or working with a doctor on this? Or is this just a midwife that works without being associated with doctors? (Some do not work with or will not consult with doctors, due to some religions) While a midwife is a trained person for pregnancy, babies, and birth. They still do not have the full training as a doctor would have. If have not included a doctor in your pregnancy, I would suggest contacting one. As I imagine they are the only one who is going to be able to help at this time (if it is not too late) If you are of a religion that uses only midwives and doctors are not allowed to be consulted, then you do stand a chance of still born or such. I am NOT saying midwives are bad or having them for your birthing is wrong, and they can be great for the birth, but a physician also needs to be available. During the pregnancy and during the birth (in case something goes wrong or the baby needs help that a midwife can not provide)

It is very hard when you have been looking forward to a home birth and it seems to be slipping away but remember the ultimate aim of pregnancy is to have a live baby with a live mother and sometimes medical intervention is the only way to achieve that. All you can really do for you blood pressure and the protein in your urine is to rest and not get all stressed. Start talking about the options with your midwife now so you can feel in control. If you need a c section, could you have an epidural and so still be awake? If you have to go into hospital for the labour what facilities do they offer? (Birthing Pools etc.) Really try to relax. If you have other children then get people to help with them. If you are working then you should take sick leave. And remember, the birth lasts for hours but the joy of a child lasts for ever.

It really does sound like pre-eclampsia, I'd phone your midwife straight away.

It's great in hospital, epidurals are the best invention ever. Don't forget you don't get any medals for a home birth or pain full labour. Don't be a martyr and get to hospital, you and your babies health are the most important thing in the world.

Good Luck, hope everything goes well!!! xxxx

hi, you definately cant have a home birth. Pre-eclampsia is very serious and you or your unborn child could die as a result if you do not have hospital treatment. With Pre-eclampsia you cant have a vaginal birth either so youll be having a cesearean. Get their attention and assess this right away, usually with this you will have to have your baby a couple of weeks early.

I agree... don't ask a bunch of strangers on the Internet when your health and baby's life are in the balance. Listen to your midwife and talk to a physician. Don't be stubborn about home birth unless you're willing to have a bad result.

You know, you really should got to an OB/GYN to get advice. They may or may not be able to safely allow you to go back to the homebirth, but they do have more medical resources than midwives and can tell you what to do.

Your OB_GYN physician needs to be closely involved with this. Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia is bad stuff, don't need to be fiddling around with it by taking advice from the internet as opposed to your care providers.

I had preeclampsia and this not something you should take lightly, You realy should just have the baby in the hospital and you realy should go to a doc for more check up, it will be safer for you and the baby. sence you are 35 weeks it is realy not anything to worry about.I was 28 week when I gave birth to my twin boys. Im glad that you are further along. take care ,let me know how everthing went.

Forget the home birth it`s too dangerous for both you and the baby. Look forward to a hospital delivery, in The Labour Suite! It`s not that bad, although i`m surprised you`re not already in hospital for obs and monitoring.
