This is one of those things they handled at our lady of pain catholic school by explaining 1) at that time it was customary to to call cousins and close friends "brother and sister." and 2) shut up or we will hit you with the steel ruler again.

That depends who you talk to.
A medical doctor will say no, after having kids with Josef she cant be a virgin.
The Catholic church believes she stayed one and had no other kids, and that the "brothers and sister" where cousins but the protestant church believes she was only a virgin for the birth of Jesus, and not after having her other kids.
Muslims and Jews believes that she wasnt a virgin, but respect the birth of Jesus as a prophet.
So different folks have differant views.

The reason Mary is referred to as virgin is she remained a virgin until after Jesus was born. Then Joseph and Mary had sex and had other sons and daughters.

You are correct, Mary went on to have more children after Jesus was born. She had normal sexual relations with her husband, Joseph.
The important thing is that she was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. It's only important in that it confirms that God was the Father of the child.

Just to be fair, I want to present the Catholic argument. I believe they say that Joseph was married before Mary and had children by his first wife. Thus, the other siblings are actually half siblings but they didn't make that distinction back then or something to this effect. Anyway, I'm agnostic and find the whole idea that anyone ever gave birth without having sex highly suspect anyway but I did want to throw that out so you would know how they rationalize it.

I don't think Mary stayed a virgin after she had Jesus. Why would Joseph take her for a wife if he was never going to consumate the marriage? That's Jesus, not cheez-it's.

In actuality Virgin women is the one who had no sex with a man, but the concept of calling her Virgin is that she had no sex to conceive Jesus. It is believed that she conceived baby Jesus through a miracle of God. It doesn't matter if she had sex after or had more babies, the fact that she was virgin before Jesus was born makes her virgin.

She was a virgin when she concieved Jesus by the Holy Spirit. When she concieved Jesus other brothers and sisters, it was through Joseph and was no longer a virgin. But you already knew that. duha.

She was a virgin when she had JESUS. That doesn't mean she had to remain one, I mean she DID get married after all. If Jesus' brothers and sisters had been immaculately conceived then wouldn't they all be God's children and all be our saviours?

opinions...that's what that thought is. the point is she was a virgin at the birth of the Christ. to think she was a perpetual virgin makes little sense, who really cares??these small points make religion a constant argument. to me the important facts never change, like the commandments and the words of the Christ..
