You had better teach him how to entertain himself and how to find some friends.
It is not the job of a parent to keep kids entertained 100% of the time.

I have an 8 year old boy. Kids now days are sooo hard to entertain!!! They hardly have an imagination anymore! All they want is electronics and then they get bored with them anyway!!! Encourage him to do things that are creative and fun at the same time. You say you live in Alaska...take him sledding, skiing, snow tubing. Also you could take him to a musem to learn about the history of Alaska. Good Luck hun!!!

get him involved in sports, art, or music. Ask him whether he'd like to be in Boy Scouts. Find out what he likes. Another suggestion is to have a cook-out and invite neighbors w/kids around his age. Just try and find ways to introduce him to social situations. Do you attend church--that might be another way.
Ultimately, it is not your responsibility to "entertain" him. He needs to do some of that on his own--take him to the library, engage him in volunteer services--limit TV & video games.

my eight year old loves to play games, video and board. he also loves those bionocles by leggo. bike riding in the neighborhood introduces him to independence and other kids on the block. always have healthy snacks for him easy to reach and easy for him to fix. it's soccer season, so sign him up! or football, or basket ball, and in the spring it's baseball. if his birthday is soon, have a huge bash for him, invite all the school kids. he'll make friends soon and be comfortable as long as you are first!

x-box, play station 2, board games, T.V. make new friends.books. computer. ask what kind of toys he would like. it really is not your job to entertain him, be a mom spend time with him but he should be able to play by himself also, it lets his imagination grow. if he hangs with adults all the time he'll miss out on being a kid.

Get a lot of toy sports equipment, and go outside and have fun. (sometimes all kids want is for people to play with them)

Playing catch, board games, puzzles, bike riding, drawing, coloring. Maybe he likes taking things apart, like an old radio.
Ask him what he likes to do.

Kids love to learn, and they love to be helpful. They need lots of nurturing to discover who they are and grow as humans. Treat him accordingly and you will be amazed by what he becomes.

Ask him what he likes to do and then do it with him, within reasonable limits of course.
