I like this verion of baked potatoes very much:

The Bomb Bakers Recipe courtesy Guy Fieri

Recipe Summary
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Inactive Prep Time: 8 hours 5 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 6 servings

1 1/4 cups kosher salt
6 medium russet potatoes, washed
2 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Horseradish Sour Cream, recipe follows

In large mixing bowl dissolve 1 cup kosher salt in 8 cups of water. Add potatoes. Insure that all potatoes are submerged, and brine for 2 to 8 hours.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Remove the potatoes from brine and liberally coat with the remaining kosher salt, garlic salt, seasoned salt, and pepper.

Place the potatoes on a wire rack in the center of the oven and bake for 45 minutes. Do not puncture skin with tongs, fork, or tooth picks. Potatoes will be soft to the touch when done.

Let potatoes rest 5 minutes before cutting.

Horseradish Sour Cream:
2 cups sour cream
4 tablespoons prepared horseradish
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients. Serve with potatoes.

I like to bake in the oven while baking the rest of the meal. It all comes out at the same time. I bake in the oven on 350 for 1 hour or place in a casserole dish after cutting the cross in them and add 2 Tbsp. water, cover the dish and microwave for 8-10 minutes depending on the size.
But, I am cooking 2 potatoes at a time and it would be a shorter time for only one.

I actually found out that for excellent baked potato taste (and without the long wait), stick it in the micro wave (750W) for about 4-5 minutes so it starts softening. Then stick it in the oven for 10 minutes at 150 deg C.

Bon Apetite!

I would cook it at high power for about 4 minutes in the microwave, turn it over, do the same again then put it into a medium hot oven for around 10-15 minutes. leave it to stand for 5 then serve it.

The oven takes a long time, especially if it's a biggie. 30 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes depending on size. In the microwave it can be done in less then 10, but you need to pierce it several times and wrap it in plastic wrap.

Wrap it in foil and pop it in the oven between 20-40mins at about 180 celcius (6 on the gas mark), depending on the size of you're spud. If you take it out pierce it with a fork, if it's hard in the centre, pop it in for another 10.
If you put it in a microwave bowl, with about a inch of water around it, and the lid on, but not to tight, so the steam can escape, about 10-20mins at medium to high.
I wont recommend micro ones. Their faster, but dry out quicker.

i wash and scrub the potato with a green scrub pad and then rinse well a couple of times. use a fork and grip it so that about 1/2 an inch of the tine is sticking out and stab the spud 4 or 5 times down the length, rotate and repeat. then lightly rub with olive oil and season with kosher salt. 350F oven for about an hour. i put them directly on the oven rack, no pans. fluffy insides and a crisp skin. perfect every time.

I bake mine in the oven. wash it good. take a small pice of alum. foil, lay the potato on the foil. put some butter, rock salt and any other seasoning you want on it.(i like fresh garlic) wrap it up in the foil. bake at 400 Deg. the time to let it cook will depend on the size of the potato. if a fork slides in and out easily it is done.
