Easily some may be content on it because there are government assistance to help them like subsidized rent, partial child care payment, food stamps and more. I have seen people do it everyday! What pisses me off is that in an area where the cost of living is high they are living like kings because here in Northern Virginia they have income brackets and they don't place them in isolated housing areas (projects) that they put them in they are given vouchers to move where ever someone will accept it even in upscale neighborhoods! It isn't fair I am ambitious enough to keep working for upward mobility so that I can live comfortably (eventually) and they just relax and take in all the benefits form the government!!!! Then don't get me wrong there are some who work to make that salary and live comfortably because they aren't motivated enough to educate themselves so they can have more! To sum it up, it isn't comfortable living making that much but some people become so casual about this they never desire anything more comfort is convenience for them! I am in school (on-line) while I am at work (administrative support) making 12.00 an hour! =+( (I am not living comfortably!!!

Some people live within their means and are happy with what they have and get. They are happy to buy what they can afford. Others have great credit and as long as they pay their bills no matter what they make they'll have the things they want anyway. Comfortable living comes from within not the outside world, no matter how much a person makes. A lot of people with children also get cash assistance as long as their working so with their $6.25 job the state matches that and their income becomes double you just don't know about it or hear about it b/c they would rather do that and make it better then struggle and tell everyone their real situation.

Why should a person be entitled or deserve a wage that they can live comfortable on when they do the bare minimum at work? There are many opportunities at work to advance yourself YOU have to find them and apply. It is not the job of the company to babysit people, but many feel that way. How many people talk with their supervisor on what more they can do? Never! But they always complain on how they feel they deserve more. Trust me as a n employer I make sure that those employees that are true assets to the company are well taken care of. Those that do the least deserve the least and some how due to laziness are satisfied. Granted they might not be happy or positive but they blame others for their misfortune instead of looking inward.

You have to take what you can get and strive to get what you can get out of this life.

Do you know how many college degree people are making that much and struggling to pay back student loans until they can find something better because many don't come right out of school into a high paying job, and if you take how many people with degrees and put them against how many high paying jobs are out there for them, you will find the numbers don't match up.

In today's society, you do need more than $8.00 an hour but in some poor towns where the cost of living is low $8 hour might look good to them. I agree that you need more than $8 for rent, healthcare, retirement savings, and rearing children in todays society and hopefully we all will one day earn a decent living.

Furthermore, I know people who make less but have better savings than someone who make more because the person who makes more is living beyond their means and the person making less is only spending their money on what is necessity and placing the rest away for a rainy day.

You can make millions and if you live beyond your means its just like making minium wage and you have a lot of millionaires now broke.

If it's like it is here in Indiana, the job market is so bad that they may have no choice. I'm a lawyer, and I work as a secretary for $10/hr. My husband has worked for the state for about 20 years, and makes about $12. Sometimes I work at a company which grades standardized tests for different states. One of their requirements is a college degree, they pay $10.50/hour, and they never have a problem getting at least 800 people to grade, even though they are only open about 5 months a year.

They are satisfied bcoz they have not gotten something better than that. They dont live a upper life, they have a budget within their means no less or no more...That's why they are confortable. I bet they will get a better job and they will also know how to handle the more they will earn. U are maybe lucky U got a job which makes earn a lot of money, but not everyone; so U should consider that.

Eight bucks is pretty small, but I will tell you that two years ago I took a HUGE pay cut to move from a job I hated to one that I love. I'm never going to drive a Jaguar or wear a Rolex on my current salary, but I'm happier than I've been in years. I enjoy life more, I sleep better, and being a happier person has probably helped me be a better person. Good news all around, and well worth the pay cut. After all, can you put a price tag on happiness?
Sure I'd like to make more, but I"d rather not sell my soul.

If the $8/hr. person you refer to is happy and surviving, don't cast aspersions.

it depends on the persons version of comfortable some people say food clothing and shelter are all I need some people say food clothing a big fancy shelter and maybe even a car or boat

why not go to places that pay those rates and look at who's doing the work its usually teens an/or college kids, semi retired and some illegals all of which don't want to pay higher taxes so they are willing to work for lower wages.

you should really go to a walmart or supermarket and ask any employee their pay is a joke a raise is in 10-20 cents not dollars atleast in my area

I firmly believe that one should follow their bliss, and to find a job they love no matter what the pay. As long as they are happy, and can live on the wage one way or another, more power to them. It doesn't pay to work a job just for the money if it makes you miserable.
