Pakistan is thinking of changing its rape law, away from islamic traditional law and some Pakistani poloticans will resign if the law changes.
Under the current law, approved by a former military dictator in 1979, prosecuting a rape case requires testimony from four witnesses, making punishment almost impossible because such attacks are rarely public.
A woman who claims she was raped but fails to prove her case can be convicted of adultery, punishable by death.
Maulana Fazalur Rahman, a leader of the Islamic coalition, said Tuesday that lawmakers in his group would vacate their seats in the National Assembly if the government tries to get the assembly's approval to change the law.
"We will render every sacrifice for the protection of the Shariah (traditional Islamic) laws," he said at a news conference.
Of course if she gets pregnant after she is raped and doesnt have 4 witnesses to the rape , then she gets stoned to death. Islam the system we all need to live under

Read what you wrote. How can Islam, or this type of interpretation of it, be classified as anything but a nasty male dominated cult?
If it really were a peaceful and benevolent way of life/religion you would expect that ALL peaceful Muslims would demand that this and other dark-aged concepts would be banished from the modern world. A TRUE religion would have some vehicle to accomplish this. The TRUE evil in the world is something called TRIBALISM. Eliminate that and this behavior would vanish. And modern/moderate Muslims know this. But because it does not involve hatred of the Jew, calls for the 'Death to the Great Satan' US, anger at depictions of Mohammad, or other such nonsense; THEY WON'T

Social laws need be modified for the sake of an ever-advancing civilization.
But no men can appropriately make this modification. The laws prescribed in a religion can be precisely modified only by the next Messenger of God, like Christ modified the laws prescribed by Moses concerning the Sabbath, the marrige, the stoning of sinners....It takes quite a long time for man to understand this concept of progressive revelation.

So you like the idea that if a woman is raped and doesn't have 4 witnesses to it and she claims it, she will be murdered in the name of Allah? If you like the Muslim religion so much, go for it. But remember to read the last half of the Quran, just not the first, you will be amazed how Muhammed turns himself all around and contradicts himself. You will be much better off with the Holy Bible. I think they should do away with these lawmakers who make laws to their own benefit!!! Perhaps a change in the govt's assembly will bring peace and happiness to all concern and not make another human being's life miserable...after all God created us to be happy in his kingdom...not create misery!!! A rape victim needs 4 witnesses to justify that she has been raped?....sounds like a porno.movie!!

You see u re only looking at the punishment in Islam only but u ve to look at the context of the law.carefully Analise this if a woman will sub mitt to the totality of is Islam virtue she ll not be rape,Islam makes it hard for false testimony for rape cos of the magnitude of the of fence..please understand Islamic law and am telling you is the most beautiful and simple law ever because is so com plate and original.or read prophet Muhammad history and see how this laws re interpreted.thank u

Wow, I couldnt imagine living in a country where women are raped then treated like dogs, because it cant be proved. Killing a woman for an act a man commited against her. Thats crazy I say kill him or worse, give him the needed operation to become a woman as well.

I really wish Muslims would stick up for their religion. Because the only representation of it we see seems to be these supposed "extremists," "fascists" and "militants". It's starting to make me wonder if even the "peaceful" ones agree with them but are simply too shy to lash out.
