My Uncle won £500,000, a 19th share on the National Lottery. I had his ticket and was checking the numbers on teletext and couldn't believe it. The Jackpot was over £9,000,000 that week and I thought we had won the lot. My mother and father had always shared winnings with my Uncle as he lived at our house. When he won the £500,000 he never shared a penny ! My Dad died a couple of days before my Uncle won and we were all in the house discussing funeral arrangments when I read the winning numbers on teletext, he gave me the ticket back to save for him and went out for a pint on his own to "think it over". When he came back my son asked him if he could phone the papers as they would pay big money at the time for a Jackpot Winner story, he said no 'cos it would spoil the funeral with all the press and everything. He told my son that he would see him alright with some money after the funeral, but he never gave him a penny either. He invested most of the money and bought hisself a caravan that we weren't allowed to go to and he bought his daughter a new house (£150,000) which my mother wasn't allowed inside when she took him over to see her as he didn't drive. My mum had to sit outside in the car for 2 hours and wait to take him back. Life and some people stink sometimes, especially when a big amount of money is involved. Be happy and stay skint ;-)

I haven't won anything big (a few tenners here and there) but I know a few people who have.

When the lottery first started I was about 14 and this woman who lived near our holiday home won over £1 million, she carried on living her normal life.

A few years later a family on my street won about £1/2 million they stayed the same, still live in the same house.

There's this lad that I used to hang around with and he got 5 numbers and the bonus ball and won over a £100,000. He hails from a lucky family as his grandma and his uncle both won £100,000 and £200,000 on the bingo a few years before.

I'm still trying to win and believe that someday I will win it - you have to have dreams don't you.

Yes, The couple who used to live in the apartment I have now, they (no kidding) actually played the "lucky numbers" on the back of a fortune cookie and cashed in for just over 3 million dollars. I know it sounds like B.S. but its true, the Missouri state lottery circa 1995
