Is their any records on the internet i can look up for free? They were from the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides. And both of my great grandparents were half native american half scottish.

Hey rawrkit,

You can try a bunch of things. GENFORUM on both surnames will help. Family Search on LDS should produce a bunch of records. You did not give a surname, so I cannot help with the search, but put your surnames in the Search of Yahoo, with the word FAMILY - this should produce many pages of hits.

Then there is Cyndislist for Scotland - lots to look at there also. That is lists of lists of places to look.

I also put some Native American research sites.

try the Rootsweb mailing and message lists. You may find someone who has data they will share. I lucked out with my old English line this way. I connected with a local historian and he was so helpful. Good luck.

contact the mitchell library in glasgow, www.mitchelllibrary.org ,they have the most extensive famaily research department in Scotland. good luck.
