Well you are mistaken. First Gods are not sink in the water. Only the Idols of GOD which are made of clay are sink in the water.

It is a ritual in hindu tradition for two festivals. One is Ganesh Chaturthi - the festival of Lord Ganesha - god of wisdom. and another festival Dussera (or navratri) the festival of Goddess Durga.
The Idols are worshipped for 9 days and are sink in the water as they are made up of clay. It is to represent the unity of the hindu community. So, the idols are made of clay and the festival is celebrated for 9 days.

And abt the water. Well, I think water gets dirty after sinking those idols not that they are sinked in dirty water. After all everything is god's creation.

1)Because the Hindu Gods are so pure that they purify even the dirty water.
2)Because they believe in helping the poor and not in living in the company of elites.
3)Because religion is the way to subtle mixing with the only Superpower.
4)The Hindus and for that sake, most of the sensible religions give water the position of a Goddess as it is the one that gives life and regard the entry of the river into the Sea as the ideal to follow.

I have written all this assuming that you are talking about the Idols and not God for The God lives in the heart of every Arya.

The Hindus present the gods to water which considered to be the best cleanser and is one of the five "tatva" (Forms of matter). Every thing mortal or divine is destined to one of the five tatvas.
Water is not dirty, it is the belief in you which is indifferent and say dirty. One should have religious tolerance and any belief or faith should not be belittled.
