A cool pet, they look neat, you might have to special order them through your pet shop, and they are great "watch dogs" they will sound off whenever there's a stranger or a stray cat in the yard.

And when they do sound off, it's a pleasant sound...not an irritating yap or continual bark.

Peacocks are beautiful animals, but with that being said, I personally don't think they make good pets. My grandfather raised them, and they make really eerie, loud sounds in the night. Also, many areas may have restrictions on what animals you can keep - if you're in one of these areas you may not even be able to keep peacocks as a pet. So I would just admire them at the zoo, etc.

Hmm, my father in law has had a couple. They can be very loud, but I had fun mocking him to get him to call again. Sadly, this peacock didn't scare off some coyotes. They also like to stare at themselves in the shiny gloss of a car and my mother in law had scratches in every vehicle she owned because the peacock thought he was fighting another male.

However, when I was a kid, there was a neighborhood near me that some people had a cage outside and had 2-3 peacocks in it. I don't recall ever hearing them make noise, but that seemed like a sad life. They couldn't come out of the cage like my father in laws (they live in the country).

Think it over.

No you don't want a peacock as a pet. They make annoying sounds. Get a dog or a cat, better yet a fish.

A quote from Bella Online:

"Suburban dwellers may need to think twice before considering peafowl as pets. Peafowl emit a high screech that sounds like a woman screaming. Your neighbors, deed restrictions, or city ordinances may prohibit the keeping of these lovely creatures. If you can keep peafowl there are a few things you will need to protect them from (and vice versa). Dogs, raccoons and some owls will prey on peafowl. "

You decide...but I don't know if I'd want to hear that outside my window every morning at 5 a.m....and you will. So will your neighbors.
