My 13 yr old child was sick all last yr, w/headaches, dizziness, nausea and sore throat. The school year was a struggle, but she made excellent grades(missed 20 days). MRI, ultrasounds-all negative, pediatrician recommended a therapist, diagnoses- depression, but once school let out symptoms went away. Now that school starts up, symptoms are back. I looked at the dates when the symptoms started and it was around 23 Aug fro this yr and last yr. Coincidentally, her period started for the first time around 23 Aug of last yr!
She says its different from last yr, she thinks its just her allergies. I don't know-she seems fine on the weekends. Now she says her stomach burns along w/sorethroat, headaches, congestion, nausea-no vomiting,no temperature, no dizziness(so far!). Summer was fine and its starting again! We live in Columbia, SC-which isn't good for allergy sufferers. Zyrtec didn't work last yr, currently on Clarinex and Nasacort, started that 4 days ago. Please help, going nuts!

It could be a number of diferent things have you had him or her checked for allergies? And it could also be stress related. Stress can be very hard on your body and cause several different things to happen to your body.

If nothing else checks out, have her checked for the following two conditions, hyperinsulinemia and candida yeast syndrome. Hyperinsulinemia can be affected by hormones (and since she is becoming a young woman, they are active). Candida yeast can do more than just cause vaginitis. I am on an 8+ month systemic cleanse (herbal) that is hopefully starting to show some success.

Check out www.hufa.org for some basic info on yeast and blood sugar imbalances, and also search www.mayoclinic.com for hyperinsulinemia.

allergies flare up in fall and in times of anxiety and at the time of our periods. So in my opinion --it's all three. And the early periods have to be really stressful on the body anyways.

Some suggestions:
TONS of vitamin C. TONS of water. no sugar or dairy or wheat.
could also see an allergy specialist and get her tested to find out if she's eating any foods she's allergic to (this will compound any environmental allergies she's having.).

best of luck to you.
oh --I think multi and B complex vitamins would help a lot too. . .

There is another possibility: What if there is something wrong with the air in the school building? Try to get that checked. Is there any chance your daughter might be sensitive to whatever is being used to clean the building?

Good luck!
