Speaking in tongues is only used when communicating to people of other languages. It is only used in acts 3 times, all times were when people of other tongues were present.
It is not some babble language. And no, to really receive the Holy Spirit you must submit yourself to Jesus. Fully. But that doesn't mean the Holy Spirit won't work upon your heart to draw you to God.
Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Now to obey God you need to submit yourself to Christ, to cleanse you from a sinful life. Now what is sin? sin is the transgression of the law
1Jo 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Now, you may ask Jesus died for our sins, so we can still sin a little bit. No you are not to be a 'better' creature, you are to be a new creature.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Now one more point, this is talking about the saints who will survive and see Jesus on the sea of glass in the last days;
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
You can find the commandments in Exodus 20, Ask Jesus to help you follow them. Don't believe it when people tell you people can't follow the commandments, this is true carnally, we can not. But if the devil can keep us from obeying, why can't Jesus help us obey? Who is stronger? The devil or Jesus?
Anyway friend, God Bless !!!
this link will help you about speaking in tongues.

Receiving the Holy Spirit is necessary. He's the Third Person of the Trinity and you need ALL three of Persons in the Godhead.
But the gift of tongues is NOT necessary for entry to heaven. It's a gift, bestowed by God on whom He wills. And frankly, these days, what passes for "tongues" is gobbledegook. The original gift gave the Apostles the ability to understand and to speak in languages they did not know, but which were the native languages of their auduence after the Pentecost. IE, there were Alexandrians who spoke an Egyptian dialect and there was an Apostle who could speak to them in that dialect, even though he'd probably never even heard it before that day. There were those who spoke Phrygian and an Apostle who could give them the Good News in their own tongue. THAT'S what the gift of tongues is supposed to do. NOT that superstitious nonsense about speaking gibberish that another individual must then translate. Too many audio recordings of these happenings have been played for linguistic experts and none of them has contained a language belonging to ANY human culture, past or persent. Forget about tongues. It's not a gift we really need these days.
If you want a gift from the Holy Spirit, ask Him for patience, fortitude, justice, temperance, generosity of heart, faith, hope and love. And remember, the greatest of these is love.

Jesus did say that you must be baptized in "water and the Spirit" but I have heard it explained that the spirit is present in water baptism as long as you are baptized in the name of the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
But I wouldn't want to have to live rowing the boat upstream without the power of the Holy Spirit infilling ever again. It's just too hard to survive as a Christian without the gifts and power. Speaking in tongues is an amazing and useful gift even if it is a "lesser" gift, I wouldn't trade it for the world. It gives the comfort of the Spirit to my spirit.

Boy this one will stir things up.It is a gift not a requirement. I know some say you can only be filled w/ the Holy Spirit if you speak in tongues. I don't believe that. I think there are numerous things that could happen when you are filled. The bibles definition of be filled is an endument of power to be a better witness to Christ. I believe you could get joy, prophecy,boldness, etc. The bible says he will give one tongues one interpretation,one miracles(etc.) all by the same spirit as He wants to give them(paraphrasing) I think if we say you have to speak in tongues to be filled we are limiting the Holy Spirit. Alot say it is a prayer language between us and God that nobody else understands. They use the day of Pentecost as their source. But if you look on the day of Pentecost when the people heard them speaking they heard their own language being spoken. So, how can this be a language between us and God? I think it was an endument of power making them better witnesses to Christ. I imagine they were proclaiming God and all of His glory. If I offended anyone I am sorry. But, I hope if I did it gets you digging into your bible and searching things out. I pray God will reveal Himself to you as you do.

Speaking in tongues?
Acts 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Speaking in tongues was not gibberish, as you can clearly see in Acts. Although tongues are NO MORE.
1 Corinthians 13:8
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease: whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away .
09-For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10- But when that which is PERFECT is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11-When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man I put away childish things.
Perfect=Christ

I do not think that Baptism in the Holy Spirit, with utterance in other tongues is a requirement for salvation. I believe the gifts of the Spirit enpower you to serve the Lord on Earth more closely. Those who do not speak in tongues are not automatically "going to Hell". God looks on the heart. That is between you and God.

Christians seem to think that 'Speaking in Tongues' means babbling incoherently. It is actually a kind of induced hysteria.
In the bible, the 'gift of tongues' meant that anyone could understand your speech, no matter what language they spoke. For example, someone who had the 'gift of tongues' could be speaking to a crowd in Greek, and people who DID NOT UNDERSTAND Greek would hear and understand the speaker as if he were speaking in their own language... just like the 'babblefish' in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Of course, just like the 'babblefish', this is pure horseshit. It was horseshit in biblical times... it is horseshit now.

When we ask Jesus into our hearts the Holy Spirit takes up residence. But to speak in tongues no. Remember the thief on the cross. He ask Jesus to remember him when He went to glory. Jesus told him to day you will be with me in glory. He didn't tell him he had to baptized or speak in tongues, or any other thing. Too many religions add on things to go to heaven. It is a personnel relationship with Jesus.

there are other forms of communicating without speach. the mute use sign language there are facial and bodily ways of non verbal communication look at how we communicate with our pets as an example. when two people meet who can not understand each other's language ingenuity takes over allowing other means to accomplish this task. the Native Americans used sign language for years due to variations in language.

It is not a requirement, you make it sound like a club. I believe Jesus died for my sins and was resurrected and I look forward to seeing him when I go to heaven so I can thank him in "person".
