GIMP is a free, open-source program. As long as you download it from reliable sites, there is not need to worry. GIMP doesn't contain any spyware/adware.

If you are worried that the developers might have included some spyware, you are welcome to check the source code - it's available for everybody to see.

That's the beauty of open-souce software.

GIMP is not only safe, but a great program. Download from Sourceforge with confidence.

Gimp and GTK+ do not contain any viruses. Ensure you download from a reliable source. Sourceforge host both.
