Forget the number of valves. They mean nothing as far as the performance of the engine and driveability of the vehicle is concerned. When sitting behind the steering wheel, you won't know the difference. What you should be concerned about is what is this truck going to be used for?

Are you going to do heavy hauling or towing, or is this vehicle to be for personal transportation only? If it's primarily for personal transportation, then the 6.0L engine is more than adequate for the job, and will give you better fuel mileage than the big 8.1L engine.

The 6.6L engine is a turbo-charged diesel engine, while the 6.0L and 8.1L engines are fueled by unleaded gasoline. Which fuel is more readily available (or less expensive) where you want to drive? The diesel engine has much more torque and is probably a better engine for heavy towing or hauling, while the gasoline engines are quieter and more refined for driving comfort. The gasoline engines will also give you better acceleration and will require less maintenance over the life of the vehicle.

The 6.6 is diesel to start. This is why its max horsepower comes at such a low RPM.

The other things to look at is the torque. This is more important than horsepower in most truck applications. the 6 Liter has only 360 FtLBS of torque while the 8.1 has over 450. If you are buying something for the desert you need to think about what kind of fuel is available too. Most desert applications will use diesel regardless of horsepower needs. Why not look at Hummer?

6.6 is stronger because of the number of valve. The higher the valve the stronger the output it will give. Second, the transmission, it has a semi-low speed type. It means, it can full heavy loads compared to the high speed transmission series of 8.1.

The 8.1 liter v8 is a gasoline powered engine. The 6.6 liter is a Duramax diesel powered engine. The diesel engine is the more powerful.

ide personally got with the 2nd one, more valves/6.6L and if im correct, more torque/speed.. however in any case, you would want more valves=speed/torque, which is the 2nd truck. rpms help torque also but the number of valves over the 1st and 3rd truck may just over rule it, besides the 2nd truck does have 360 hp, more than the other 2, my bets with the 2nd truck..if the engine is a HEMI then most definately got with it/or if its a DIESEL engine, go with it still!!!!!! if im wrong, someone correct me..

piston size and the cam in the 6.6 makes it a stronger engine

HP gives you speed, torque gives you acceleration. Look at both figures before your decide.
