***DO NOT DEFROST ANYTHING ON THE COUNTER TOP OR THE SINK. ***

by the time the center is thawed the outside will have been in the danger zone for HOURS. you can put it in a sink of water, but you need to have running water. so keeping the sink drain open just enough to not over flow it is a pain.

put it in the fridge about 3 days before you bake it. Personally i bake my birds par-frozen. it makes them more juicy.

It all depends...the larger the turkey, the longer the defrost...think of a turkey on Thanksgiving...a lot of people put them in the refrigerator 3-4 days ahead to make sure that the entire turkey is thawed out so that there are no surprises...on the packaging of the turkey should be directions on how long to defrost and how...I would say at least 2 days for a large turkey and up to 24 hours for a small turkey

Thaw it slowly. The easiest strategy for thawing poultry, although the slowest, is to put it in the refrigerator ahead of time. A whole chicken will defrost in one day, while a large turkey might take two to three days. Do not thaw it outside of the fridge; the cool temperature will inhibit the growth of bacteria as the meat slowly thaws.

always defrost poultryin the fridge, put it in a non reactive metal or glass container in the lower part of your fridge, if it is fully frozen it might take a day or two, rinse well every 5-6 hours to help keep it from sitting in thawed turkey blood

The time scheduled is always on the back wrapper of the turkey.

When I am in a hurry, I place the turkey in a large tub of cold water, and it will defrost faster.

But always by fridge overnite in a plastic bowl just in case it
has to defrost for a few days.

good luck

Put it in the refrigerator. Considering it's a good sized turkey put it there 3-5 days before you will be cooking it.

If you put it in the sink make sure you change the water every half hour and that the rule is half and hour per 2 pounds.

Defrosting the unit is achieved by:-
Temporarily removing all food from the cabinet.
Turning off power to the unit.
Leaving the doors to the unit open
Waiting for the ice to melt and draining it appropriately.
(Using a towel is advisable when completing this step)

The process may be sped up by mechanical removal of ice, or the introduction of gentle heat into the cabinet.

It is generally recommended that defrosting should be done mannually.

Many newer units are described as frost free and do not require manual defrosting in normal use.

Good Luck ;-)

3 hours room temperature in the sink. Better if you put it in the fridge, then it will take 24 hours (at least)
