We do that because the true meaning of love has become perverted from what it really means.
Love should mean people caring for each other.
For most it currently means is the forming of an economically convenient social bond between two people to the exclusion of others. Nothing to do with caring about other people at all.
The problem we have is that this 'love' has become a goal in itself, rather than as a part of the process of making the world a better place.
People talk about it so much because it has been made one of our goals, an unachievable goal because so few will be lucky enough to understand what it really means.

Please ask the question you came here to ask, and that is why did my previous significant other talk about love when they apparently didn't care. I don't know what their personality flaws are, but the word "love" is thrown around by some people too quickly when they really should be using the word "like" instead. Those people don't realize how powerful a word "love" is and how crushing it can be their significant other if the word is said but not meant. With age comes wisdom and with wisdom they will stop using the word "love" when they mean "like", until then you just need to date others that are capable of "love".

Yes they do care! Lots and lots! You just have nt met the right people yet. But I promise you will!
My father was a serious alcoholic who left me on pub (Bar) doorsteps for hours during his 'weekends with me' as a little kid. And my step mothers ambition was to tell me how ugly, stupid and pointless I was. (I was 8)
There was no love and no one cared. What did I do? I made my own happy secure loving family. I have a husband who really loves me and two lovely kids. People do care but you have to choose your Friends with great care.

my personal belief is that before god sent a problem he sent the solution and therefore there must be some one out there who you would feel in due course not only loves you but also cares for your emotions.....so cheer up and be hopeful and optimistic.....
