It seems to me that there are a lot of people in here who are obsessed with trying to convert the world to their own opinions. It's a bit like me telling you that you should eat brown bread rather than white bread.

Why do you think this is? I am not against it, so much as I do not see the point. How can you possibly believe all that nonscence, or is it just a socialised opinion? You tell a lie/fiction enough times and people believe it!

Your considered thought would be appreciated.

Why

If you are not convinced then don't criticize it. There's no such thing as "converting the world to their opinions." Opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one but it depends on what it is. I believe your beliefs are asinine and you say the say thing about mines therefore we agree upon something.

Religion is and always will be a topic where people are of strong opinion. Your position is that religion is nonsense and a lie/fiction, while I do not. You are not directly trying to convert people to your position, but labeling it nonsense leads me to believe you do not hold people who believe in high or decent regard. Calling them liars merely supplements that conclusion.

As for the zeal and conversion, if you did believe that a belief in God leads to an eternal reward, or even a better life now, wouldn't you want to share that story? Do you not see a good movie or eat at a good restaurant and share that story as a way of letting you know of something that you found enhanced your life? I sure do.

They think that their way is THE right way...and all other ways are of Satan, of evil or whatever such nonsense. This eventually leads to their intolerance and hate of different people. Sadly this intolerance disease is rampant in almost all religion/belief systems (Christianity, Islam, Atheism though are the more visible ones).

They also think depending on their particular context that they have a divine mission to convert the "heathens and infidels"...thus they constantly preach even though they become the opposite of what their faiths truly teach and become hateful idiots in the process.

Do note that not all followers of whatever religion/belief/dis-belief system are like this...only a certain few are.

You handed over those Viking berserkers. those men might have slaughtered something....and in the previous you're saying it wasn't non secular zeal, a number of those men have been so pumped for Valhalla that they have been nonetheless status after being mortally wounded, and nonetheless had the flexibility to deal you your loss of existence blow.

Why do some so zealously proclaim or refute the non-existence of God? Are they trying to convert the world to their opinions? There are those that feel strongly about their faith and beliefs on both sides and proclaim it...and those that feel differently or the opposite who emotionally and emphatically refute the other's opinions. OK...that's the way it is...get used to it...move on...you have your own mind and can choose your position...keep it to yourself or tell others. I personally don't subscribe to the foul rhetoric, name calling or belittlement...must be a lot of anger out there...why? I believe that there will come a day when we all will find out who's "lying"...let's hope we're on the "right" side...I believe I am...

The wrong people are also trying to convert the world to their opinions, and are trying to force their secularist relgion upon everyone.

The right people also have a right to express themselves according to Freedom of Speech, and may the better of the two sides win.

Now I do know there are a lot of relgious hypocrites and phonies are a dime a dozen. Nevertheless, they're often right technically and are usually better than the people who want to get rid of good laws and a civil society, altogether.

You know the story about the truth and those damn boots, I'm sure.

I say, why not the religious zeal? If there were no zeal there would be no religion, only silly faith, and where's the peacockesque strutting in that? It's all just a mating dance, but with god instead of sex.

Ok for me, it may be a bit different than most, but for years I was addicted to pornography and sexual immorality. there was not one relationship I had ever had in which I had been faithfull. The WORD OF GOD ALONE completley changed my life, my thinking, my actions. The man I was a year ago is dead and gone, and a new one has taken his place. A man who rejoices at the Joy the Lord brings, at the joy the word of God brings into my life. I have the rare priviledge of seeing the word of God at work in the lives of others. And I can tell you there is nothing I have ever seen like it in the world. It is unbelievable the power of the word of God alone.

There has been a lot of fear mongering lately. Religious zeal often follows fear mongering. Plus there is a strong effort, at least in the US, to incorporate Christianity as the state religion. So, politicians are also fueling the religious zeal to their own purposes.

It all comes down to the fact that religious peoplr are split into 2 groups. 1) those that actually have faith and hence do not go around trying to convert, but will answer questions, since they feel that others will come to it in their own time or fnd their own path. 2)Those who speak very loudly, carry a big stick and have no real faith at all and in an effort to drown out their own emptiness they scream and yell for you to convert to cover up their own lack of faith.
People should be, as the founders intended, free to find their own belief and practice it as long as it doesn't hurt others. People should also be free from harrassment by others, but since religion tends toward cult-like tendencies (not trying to be critical but it is true) it encourages its followers to go out and get more followers to increase its population.
Now, like always, someone says it is a reaction to the "religion" of secularism which is total nonsense. Secular itself means not religious so it cannot be a religion but in an effort to denegrade and drag secularism into the mud the religious right has labeled it so..so its "faithful" followers declare it must be so. Society's move to secularism has been going on for hundreds of years and as it progresses the quality of human life has increased. Secularism does not care if you believe in your God ro not, but you cannot FORCE everyone to follow YOUR BELIEFS which most religious people, as a rule, tend to demand from the global society.
Society used to be quite balanced and fair. The state ran the government and the laws, culture took care of the basic code of ethics to encourage community and peoples' religious beliefs were a private matter that could also be shared with the community in a private way. I do not mean private as hidden but as that no one would suggest making a law to honor your mother+father..those who did not where seen as bad and avoided..it was done on a personal level. NOW this generation has grown lazy and doesn't want to do any work themselves so they want their government to come in and force people to believe what they do...they want their consitutionally seperate state to name "X" belief as the official behavior model for ALL people and arrest and lock up those who refuse to conform. This is contrary to the very ideal of freedom, justice and decency.
No "secular" person has a problem with religion in itself but we do require it remain in its place. You want to pray? Fine but you do it by yourself and not in class. You want to say 2 people cannot get married? Fine but stop protesting when others do it.
It is sad that now "religious", which only used to mean a belief in a higher power, now means "superior" since most religious people I have ever met assume that they are better than you because they "believe". One day these zealots will learn that they are commiting the sins of vanity and pride and possibly correct their behavior.

For record I do have a God but I agree that public instiutions should be secular to guard against religion's mob mentality...they are there for everyone not just the "faithful"
